Yes? If I go into a store here and they're advertising chocolate donuts, they will write "chocolate," not "chokore-to." There are plenty of signs here that look like, "新！CHOCOLATEパン" or whatever.

I guess you could argue that they're "using English" for the sign, but since the word is read exactly the same way in that context as it would be in katakana, and intelligible to a non-English speaker, I think that's pretty moot.

What am I trying to say? You said they're not Japanese words. I say they are. If they're not Japanese, "facade," "tsunami," and "khaki" are not English words.

You said "romanization," which is the conversion of the words, as pronounced in Japanese, into the Roman alphabet. It's not pronounced "chock-lit" in Japan, it's pronounced "chokoreeto," which is why it's romanized as "chokoreeto," (or chokoreito, etc) not "chocolate" or "chock-lit." So no, they are not spelled that way when romanized. They're spelled that way in ENGLISH, which the Japanese love to throw in wherever they can. Big difference.

Not to mention loadwords sometimes don't match up with their English equivalents, like "consent" for a wall outlet or "one piece" for a dress. The words are changed when adapted into Japanese.

Well, no, those words are NOT English originally, which was the whole point of my odd little subthread here. Arguing that Japanese people talking about a tsunami is somehow Western because the word is now part of the English language is a comparable situation.

... My entire point was that "words of [language] origin" and "[language] words" are not the same thing. "Facade" is from French, but is now also an English word. "Jumper" is from English, but is also now a Japanese word.

It was a point of pedantry that really did not require an entire subthread.

Married to a Japanese (granted, he hasn't lived in Japan in the last 10 years), raising a child to speak both Japanese and English, and I agree with you. Some words are written in both Japanese and English on signs in Japan, but when using romanization, they are spelled how they sound.
