Okay, I'm going to ask a question that some of you are going to think is trolling, but I'm being completely honest and sincere.

What is it about Titanic that everyone hates so much?

I used to be OBSESSED with it - but, then again, I was about six when it came out, and I was even weirder then than I am now. But I honestly had no idea until recently that it was so widely disliked. I'm actually sometimes clueless about people's opinions on these things to the point that I've started to worry about myself a little. So, someone explain it to me, please. What's wrong with Titanic?

I don't know. I liked it. Not the best of Cameron movies (which are, in no particular order, Aliens, Terminator and Abyss) but not the worst and clearly not the worst movie ever.
It was fun, and I cried.

Anything that is widely loved by 11-13 year old girls will be widely disliked by the general population, it seems. (I was a Titanic and Leonardo DiCaprio-obsessed 12-year-old....so I'm clearly still all nostalgic about it. But it's actually a pretty good movie, nostalgia aside.)

To me, I was a young girl who didn't find the film that interesting. I cried at the end but I didn't really get why my sister and friends all loved the movie and Leo so much. I recently watched "Titanic" again and I just found the movie very cheesy. I also found the love story so stupid. Maybe I've seen the story rehashed so much that I didn't find it quite as captivating as I would have when the movie first came out. The story of the rich person meeting with the poor person. Rich person feels trapped and poor person teaches rich person to let loose and be themselves and be ~FREE~.
When I was 11 I probably didn't see it like that, but I assume I saw the movie as a whole instead of just the story of Jack and Rose, which I think a lot of my peers did, so I didn't really give a shit about it because it was just an okay film overall, whereas my peers only saw the epic love story.

PS. What doesn't sit well with some people is that this movie was nominated for like 12 Academy Awards and it WON for Best Picture. Looking back, it's not some beautiful masterpiece, it's really more like a fun popcorn film with hammy acting.

I'm not sure about other people, and the fact that I've never been much of a romance fan might have something to do with it, but I found the movie boring as hell with vapid, unlikable main characters that stretched on for way too long. There were so many wonderful (and moving) true stories from the Titanic that Cameron could have focused on for the plot, but instead he and his team decided to make up some romantic, nonsensical drivel (seriously, the third class passengers would have had no chance to casually interact with the first class passengers until the ship was dead in the water, and probably not even then) that then walked away with a heap of money and awards because hordes of women couldn't get enough of the cliche forbidden romance thing.

I will admit, though, that I first watched it with some bias anyway because that damn theme song was so overplayed at my elementary school at the time (you listen to fifteen out of tune renditions of "My Heart Will Go On" sung by kids under the age of ten at a single event and see how long your sanity lasts). And maybe I didn't appreciate the special effects and whatnot because I saw the thing once, and it was on a rather small television about four years after its release in theaters.
