Hahaha oh boy.

Two things:

(1) People don't often ship things for "good reasons," they do it for emotional ones, but
(2) I admit I have a hard time taking such people seriously too, especially if they act like it would be totally fluffy/angstsexy and ignore the fact that they ummmm hate each other in canon. Like, as long as they seem to keep the reality of what they're shipping in perspective, but otherwise... I side-eye.

Judging people for what they ship is silly and wrong but sometimes we can't help it, I'll be the one to say so.

Hermione/Lucius is the pairing I really don't get (when the author actually has them in love).

[identity profile] thebiggest-lie.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
First, let us address the term ‘good reason’. Who are you to decide what is a good or bad reason to ship something? If someone wants to ship something because of chemistry, or canon, or possibility, or loving the characters or physical attraction to said characters, then that is their right.

I love Draco as a character. I love Harry as a character. And wouldn’t you know it, I like what happens when you put them together; angst and all. For me, that is more than enough reason to ship something.

Like J.K. would care.

[identity profile] dgcatanisiri.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's called FoeYay. It comes about when people believe that the only reason why people pick on others is because they secretly love them. There's a fine line between love and hate, and some people decide to blur it.

I don't ship either, but I can understand why people do.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-28 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Do you ever need a good reason to ship anything? Neither of those ships make sense at all, but most of us probably just ship it for the hotness factor. Or maybe some fans wish Draco had been more than just a spoiled, cowardly git.

[identity profile] yahalomay.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
I actually ship it for the redemption arc, so I'm pretty much the latter. :)

[identity profile] wake-the-dragon.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely love the redemption arc.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-28 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
People who take shipping seriously amuse me.

It's supposed to be fun. Do you really need a "good reason" to ship a particular pairing?
If you like a ship, awesome, have fun with it, draw art, write fic, squee with other fans. If you don't like a ship, that's cool too, don't go looking for fic or art of it, and pass it by and try to ignore it when you stumble across it. If you're talking to somebody and figure out you're on opposite shipping lines, agree to disagree and find something else to talk about.
Shipping is supposed to be fun. Let it be fun.

Oh for fuck's sake, you don't need a reason to ship something, much less a good one.

[identity profile] miezen.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, someone on the internet is judging me because I ship something without a ~good reason~!

[identity profile] captain-loki.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, after 12 years of devotion to Harry Potter and admiration/respect to J.K Rowling as an author who wrote a brilliant piece of fiction, my personal shipping of such is my way of saying frak you.

or not.

fanon =/= canon

(Anonymous) 2011-07-28 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly? Because its hard to find good Draco gen fic. That and way too many books/movies code the "stand-offish, rude, tries to show you up and smack you around" character as main female love interest to the protagonist. I mean sure the gender is wrong, but its an easy mix-up. Hiccup and Astrid off the top of my head as an example.

[identity profile] mutantjules.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
bahahaha okay

cause shippers really care if you take them ~srsly. How about you ship what you like and let others do the same? :D

[identity profile] helenadax.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
I don't care about you and I don't care about Rowling.

[identity profile] aquila-star.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I have good reasons. But I'm not going to explain them to you since you a)don't care and b)wouldn't listen anyway.

Otoh, I repeat what was said above. 'Oh no, someone is judging me on the internet. Bwaaah.'

[identity profile] citrinesunset.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)
What's a "good reason" for shipping something? And what does it matter if a ship is difficult to justify? I don't care what anyone ships as long as they have fun and don't interfere with anyone else's fun.

[identity profile] xerxes92.livejournal.com 2011-07-28 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
In the second movie when they were at Florish and Botts, after Draco says "See you at school" and before he leaves, he looks at Hermione and does this weird eye-brow raise thing. I've shipped one-sided Dramione ever since.

[identity profile] kal-ella.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
you must be new here

[identity profile] hunter-san.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
For fun?

(Anonymous) 2011-07-29 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
Of all the infinite criteria that go into whether or not I will "take someone seriously," who the fuck someone ships would have to be at or near the bottom of the list.

People ship stuff you don't approve of. This should not be earth-shattering news unless you happen to be thirteen years old.

[identity profile] novemberxi.livejournal.com 2011-07-29 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well I never understood Draco x Hermione... it's 100% crack but Harry x Draco has that 'rivals' appeal some pairings have.

People don't always ship for solid reasons though so it doesn't bother me much, that's just fandom.
