I think they just dropped the ball with the Weasleys in the 8th film. Fred's death was underwhelming, Molly killing Bellatrix had no punch, and with Percy t was like, Oh, Percy is there, who was he again?

Damn, now I'm dreading to see the movie.

Didn't they drop the ball with the Weasleys way before DH Pt. 2? Like, they hadn't introduced Bill in GoF, thus missing the opportunity to drop some foreshadowing about his and Fleur's wedding in DH Pt. 1, and I don't remember Charlie being mentioned AT ALL... it's as if he'd never existed.

Personally, I would have LOVED to have seen his reaction to Fred's death (he estranges himself from the family for years, and then not one hour after redeeming himself one of the brothers that he always had issues with dies in front of him? That's some intense shit right there) but I knew going in that it wasn't going to happen since they would have had to have kept up with the Percy storyline since OOTP for it to make any sense. I totally agree that it was a missed opportunity, though.

I hated that they cut his storyline, but NGL, I really loved that tiny scene after Voldemort dies where all the Weasleys are sitting together and you see Percy just chilling with them, like none of the nasty stuff never happened because they all love each other so much because they are a family, god damn it.

I never liked Percy and when he decided to turn his back on his family in the earlier books...yeah, I ended up hating him. Then he showed back up all "I'M SO SORRY!!" I was just :| "Nice of you to come back NOW. No love for you mister. Sorry."

In the end, I never cared for him so when people pointed out that he never had his big moment or even came back (apparently he did? huh), I didn't even notice. *shrug*

I was more perplexed by Dean being at the school when Harry and Co. showed up. That bothered me more than anything else in that film.

OP, are you me? Because I felt the same way.

And, as your plea for non-shippy fics has so far gone unanswered, I will shamelessly plug my own story: The Secret Life of Percival Weasley (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6966030/1/The_Secret_Life_of_Percival_Weasley). When Percy is injured in a battle with death eaters, Molly and Arthur learn about his life as part of an undercover auror task force. (And yes, this is a concept that both Molly and Percy himself thought were absolutely ridiculous when first confronted with it).

It's not quite 15,000 words and his journey (though, not the fic) starts well-before he ever left home or even heard about secret auror task forces. But really it's mostly my way of making his asshattery not just be about him being an asshat. I'm actually working on another fic that is only *slightly* AU to SLoPW, because I wanted to keep working in the universe but with his role coming to light in a much different way. But that's a ways off.

I've also been on a bit of Percy kick as far as reading goes. Here are some that I've enjoyed:
Violent Echoing (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6892283/1/Violent_Echoing): Percy goes darkside with a little help from Lucius Malfoy. It's a little abrupt in places, but quite good. 14,000-ish words (I don't think it's done yet, though).

Counterclockwise (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3856424/1/): With his father and siblings dead, Percy goes back in time to make things right. It's a really interesting take on ways parts of the books could be drastically different if any one thing changes (for instance, what if Ginny died in the Chamber of Secrets?). I almost didn't read it, because the first chapter had a labeled "Flashback!" and "End Flashback!" which is just one of my giant pet peeves, but that convention goes away after Chapter One, and the rest is fabulous. 13,000-ish words.

Wag the Dog (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6868025/1/Wag_the_Dog): Perhaps my favorite, this is...way more realistic than Secret Life, but has a similar theme. When Percy goes missing, Arthur tracks him down and along the way learns how his son has been using his vast knowledge of bureaucracy to get muggle-borns out of the country during book seven. It can perhaps be a smidge confusing at parts, but is definitely worth it if for nothing else than Percy's confrontation with Umbridge and this scene:
"Do not cross me little boy," she whispered. "A tiny word from me in the Minister's ear and you shall be out on yours. I've been working here longer than you."

Percy leaned forward and whispered too. "I'm better than you at this Madam Umbridge. I will tie you up in so much red tape you will not be able move."

"I dealt with your siblings at Hogwarts. I know how to deal with Weasley trouble makers."

Yeah, that bothered me too. I think it was a cool moment, and I've always liked him a lot.

The only thing that bothered me even more (and I'll just assume that you've all seen the movie or are fine with spoilers since you've commented here)...

is that that Harry just broke the Elder Wand. WTF, fix your own wand first! That would have taken about 20 seconds, why did they cut it out? Now he has no wand at all. Except for Malfoy's, which is something I can live with as a casual shipper, but still.
