(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 01:45 am (UTC)(link)"Noncon" is a fictional trope used to describe a certain kink. It does not exist in the real world, just like "dubcon". There's not a universal definition, but noncon is nearly always a story written for kink value, not a story that attempts to paint a realistic depiction of real world sexual assault. Those sorts of fics are usually labeled with a rape warning. Noncon also covers all nonconsensual sex acts, not just rape. A nonconsensual hand job isn't rape under the law; it's some variation on sexual assault/molestation/sexual battery. If it's written as a kink for people to fap to, it's noncon.
Your argument is specious, and you can just as easily flip it around and say that labeling a kink fic "rape" is trivializing actual rape and offensive to actual victims because noncon is so often written with shades of the "secretly wants/likes it" trope. Stories about rape are not.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-22 06:17 am (UTC)(link)If I see "rape" in the description, I'm likely to skip the fic, because I don't like reading graphic/realistic descriptions of forced sex/intimacy or its after-effects. However, sometimes I like reading noncon fics. Similarly, while I realize that almost all dubcon scenarios would constitute rape in real life and would be wrong, I like reading them. It's a kink. I don't want noncon and dubcon to be called "rape" in warnings, because then I wouldn't know when fic is actually featuring something I'd like to read.
