I miss the fandom! And the awesome fic and the squeeing and all the general amazingness that was floating around in that comm so freely.

My secret? I still regret not having the guts to speak up during that stupid stupid hate meme. I am no one in fandom anyway so it's not like I would have lost anything. It probably wouldn't have helped at all but at least I wouldn't feel like such a coward right now.

I know what you mean; what happened to that fandom was brutal; it was the online equivalent of a slasher film.

I just hate being bullied into silence; I thought those times would be over once I got out of high school and I still can't believe I fell right back into that pattern. So maybe you're right, maybe not being anon wouldn't have been too wise.
But I can't help but feel like a coward.

Yes yes my ~personal inner drama. Blah.

Can't wait for the fandom to come back. And we'd better come back stronger. <3

I drifted out of ST fandom in 2009, after that mad summer of love. Was there wank? All the Chekov/Sulu crowd seemed really nice and chilled!

About what sort of thing?

My first guess was that it might be agewank - there were always people a bit bothered about Chekov being 17. (That's legal where I am, but I kinda get that if you live someplace where it isn't, you'd be skeeved out.)

Or were there other things, like people hating on popular writers and stuff?

About the seme/uke trope (Chekov bottomed always in a lot of the most popular fic and some of the reasoning was a bit skeevy).

Also there were pretty loud BNFs.

To be honest, my favourite fics from hollycomb are her first two - after that the characterisation gets a bit too exaggerated for me tbh - but no way worth anonymous bullying (I seem to have missed most of the implosion).

Will readily admit to re-reading her fic, though, and those first two were especially awesome.

I always lurked in fandom and I regret that so much, because I love the fanfic and I love the pairing. It was amazing.
