I tried to read Homestuck but it was boring and ugly. How is it so popular?

Well, 'boring' and 'ugly' are opinions, not facts, sweetie. That means that other people could really enjoy a story that you find boring!

before knowing anything about Homestuck besides fandomsecrets I had a dream about it, and the dream was more interesting than the thing itself appears to be.

How far did you read? It took me three tries to get into it because I couldn't make myself believe that something with such simplistic art and inane shenanigans could ever get good. Then... it just DID. And the idiosyncrasies started to grow on me.

It gets better, I think.

At first I was like "woow this is boring as hell" but it takes a while. Then it gets good.
