I have a feeling that a lot of people choose to study at St. Andrews because they're Harry Potter fans and the University has a certain Hogwarts charm to it. It makes me feel better about myself since the reason I applied in the first place, was a Merlin fanfic.

Is it? It's one of the top 3 uni in the UK and I got in. Does it matter if I found it via the Guardian Ranking or via a fanfic? Not for me.

Be proud that you got in, however you found St A's anon, it's a fantastic university and a lovely, friendly town too.

My university has a building with a really weird layout. This isn't why I chose it, but I always think of Unseen University when I'm in that building.

Thanks for the indirect rec!

And idek, most university AUs I've read are by students, so they're a good deal more . . . fleshed out, personal, enthusiastic than a prospectus or what have you, with the bonus of anonymity. Plus reading the fics makes you feel as though you know the place a little already, maybe, so it seems logical :)

That said, does anybody know some good AUs set in Cambridge?

I think most people don't let a book or show (or a fanfic for that matter) influence where they decide to go to school

but St. Andrews is a cool uni. Although I got tired of how tiny the town was

I only went to Gordonstoun because it was a boarding school in the north of Scotland with old stone buildings and Houses. NGL.
