Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.
(LJ's still lagging here and there, good luck.)

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)might i suggest sending some money to an organization that will help with the famine in Somalia? like, tiny children are eating dirt and thousands of people are dying.
i'd kind of think that maybe you could send a "sizable chunk" of that money to save lives rather than buy video games, but that's just me. (and yes, i am kind of judging you here - i mean, i get the whole getting what you want thing and i get wanting things....but.)

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 06:35 pm (UTC)(link)i mean, i totally understand on one level - i've literally never lived above the poverty line and am currently existing on unemployment and the (incredibly meager) assistance that my parents can give me. i'm barely covering my bills and food and gas each month and there's no money for anything else. and like every poor person, i have lists and lists of things i'd love to have someday (and yes, some of them are video games).
But. i'm broke by American standards and i bet you are too. i've never literally had nothing to the point where i'm starving to death and fleeing from extremist gun toting thugs who run my country and who deny that there's even a famine going on. i'm incredibly lucky to be where i am and to have the life i have and i know it.
which is why i keep wearing old clothes and why i drive an old car and why i regularly give money - even now when i'm poorer than i've ever been in my very poverty striken life - to charitable organizations that help those in extreme need. i'm gutted that i can't do more than $5 this month for the Somali relief effort, but it's what i can give.
if that's not your bag, it's not your bag. it doesn't make you a horrible or evil person to want to spend your windfall on yourself. it makes you like most people i've known and it certainly isn't much different from most Americans. but it is a very self-focused and self-centered way of looking at the world.
(for the record, this isn't intended to guilt-trip you. i have a lot of feelings on this subject, which is a sore one with my family. my dad is of the opinion that we shouldn't send foreign aid to anywhere, but especially not Africa, because "if it's really so bad there, why don't they either fix it or move?" and i just...you hit a sore button.)

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)How about you donate your money to charity if you want and shut the fuck up about what other people spend theirs on because it isn't your goddamn business. You get to start judging people once you've cut all the luxuries out of your own life in favor of saving starving Somalians. Until then, YOU ARE A HYPOCRITE.
