F!S Anon Meme (the Fifth)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

(LJ's still lagging here and there, good luck.)

I really look down on all the fandom people who consider themselves big SJ activists or interested in it/are generally liberal but are pro-Israel.

Ahahaha, I don't blame you bro. That's awful.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I respect them more.

Someone explain this to me! I am neither pro- nor anti-Israel—I think everything going on between Israel and Palestine is horrible, on both sides, but a lot of pro-Israel Jewish politicians (Rahm Emanual, for instance) seem pretty decent to me.

???

The Jews are evil because they're defending themselves against political forces that have stated that, quite literally, they would like to erase them from the face of the earth. As far as I've been able to gather. Also, for stopping flotillas that have smuggled weapons for terrorists in the past and offering to distribute the aid to Palestinians themselves! For shame.

Honestly, it just seems like an extension of good old fashioned white-European Antisemitism, only in a fresh new "liberal" package. Israel's done bad shit, Palestine and its allies have done bad shit, but it's the Jews' fault because... ...well, everything is the Jews' fault, really.

So much this. Got it in one, brother.

I want to say that you didn't gather much and from what you've gathered you didn't understand anything, but I've seen too many people I otherwise respect say the same things.

If you're actually pro-Israel in their policy towards Palestine and aggressivity, then I feel sad for you.

Basically, because the Israelis horribly oppress, deprive, and otherwise are disgusting towards the Palestinians (denying them food and needed supplies, blockades, bombing the fuck out of them, destroying schools/hospitals, killing children, and so on and so forth). People tend not to like that. And pro-Israel activists' claims of "self-defense" fall kind of flat when you're talking about a Palestinian bomb killing one Israeli citizen being retaliated against with a strike that kills tens or even a hundred Palestinians, or maybe destroys a hospital, or maybe kills some little children. Not to mention the whole "let's take their land, demolish their homes, and give them to ~our people~" settlement bullshit, and the "let's treat every Palestinian ever like a terrorist and deny them basic necessary supplies for life like concrete for building homes and medical supplies and act like the people opposing our blockade that keeps aid out of Palestine are the ~bad guys~ and aiding those evil, evil terrorists by bringing them baseball bats and medicine and schoolbooks."

tl;dr: The Israeli state is basically monstrous towards the Palestinians. Period, end of story. While this doesn't mean Israeli people are always horrible or anything, it does mean exactly what I said: Israel (the state / the government / the majority of the people who vote) are completely, inexcusably inhumane and horrible to Palestine / the Palestinian people.

Definitely agreed. Ugh.

I'm in favour of Israel's right to exist, but not at the expense of Palestinians. I'm for the two-state solution.

I'm an observant Jew, a progressive, a queer, a feminist, and a woman.

I'd post this unanon if I could, but basically- you can't take away someone's social justice card just because you don't agree with them on one issue.
