Irrational character love?

Does anyone have a character that they just love beyond reason? Like, you are aware of their flaws but hate when other people point them out, and it upsets you when they are treated poorly in fic?

Idk why I get so attached and protective, it's ridiculous.

Yes and it is usually not the most popular character in the fandom who is always neglected or written with terrible stereotypes.

I have and in addition to that he was probably the least popular main character. It sucked but I coped by making my own fandom material for that character. I still do get peeved when new people who marathoned the series insult him though. FFFFff, well just rest easy knowing you're on a winning team, anon.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm going through right now, over a pretty...polarizing character. I don't mind people pointing out her flaws, and I'm quite ready to point them out myself, but it still makes me sad to see her hated on...even though the haters have their reasons and I understand that.

...really, I go through this all the time, just usually not with a character this morally questionable.

oh yes :) I used to be in love with Ron Weasley when I was younger. I got over that a long time ago, but it still pisses me off when people insult him.

And for some strange reason I will bite your head of if you insult Arthur Hastings xD

Not only have I done this, but I've done this with characters who only appear in one episode.

Heh, I feel your pain. I got very attached to two minor characters from a single arc, and have spent the rest of the series missing them. They hardly ever turn up in art or fanfic, and when they do, they're often bashed to make other characters look good. ARRGH!

I suppose a plus is that you can create as much head-canon and back-story or side arcs for them as you like - but it's less fun when there's no-one to share it with :(

I have two - the character that kept me sane when I was twelve, and a character I have fallen in love with recently.

But for me, both characters are insanely flawed, which is why I love them, and I am always up for discussion on that. I save my irrational 'hate when other people point out their flaws' rage for when other people get the flaws wrong. No, she isn't an evil genius; she's actually demonstratively pretty stupid. No, he isn't a whiny emo, that's what he's like in YOUR SHITTY FANFICTION.

oh man, LOVE Sam. Used to prefer Dean but since season 5, I've been more interested in Sam. He's really sweet.

Gamzee Makara. He's a psychotic, merciless killer but I still get sad when people want him to die or kill him off in fic.

Douglas Fargo. I don't even mind him being the buttmonkey in other people's fics as long as they get that he's not *just* the buttmonkey . . . but fully half of the Eureka fandom is still Jack/Nathan and the majority of them bully Fargo in fic like Nathan does in the show, without the occasional bone-throw.

I always have one in each fandom. And they just can't do any wrong in my eyes and if they mess up in canon I make up elaborate explanations why it's not their fault haha.
