(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)I was on SSI for a while (c/o my mother since I was a minor at the time), and a friend of mine went BALLISTIC on me when she found out because apparently kids with crippled parents don't deserve to buy clothes anywhere except thrift stores and should never have any fun ever because it inconveniences the taxpayers. What she didn't quite understand was that we needed to spend "extra" money during the summer so the payments didn't get reduced to a level where we couldn't afford to heat the house in the winter.
I feel you, OP. Buy yourself some nice things and disregard the haters.
