With all the kink memes and everything in fandom, you wouldn't think it was possible, but fandom's view of sex seems so...prudish.

I submitted a secret a while ago about how I was convinced that two characters had sex - nothing else, just sex - and it was immediately assumed that I shipped them (and then there was hate originating from that assumption only).

Nope. Just convinced that they boned. Guess fandom will accept vore, pedo, and non-con fic, but can't seem to fathom the idea that two people could have some consensual, casual sex.

See also: the silly notion that just because a character is in a relationship by the series' end, it's their ONE TWU WUV and they won't ever have any other relationships ever. Do you people live in the real world?

I think that might just be that not everyone has exactly the same definition of 'ship'. I don't think all the pairings I ship are necessarily TWU WUV, you can use the term to refer to two people having casual sex.

I doubt people who ship OTPs genuinely believe that that's how it works in reality, it's just a fantasy of a perfect relationship. They have that fantasy because it won't happen in the real world.

Not talking about people with OTPs in general, I'm talking about people who think that canon relationships are proof enough to discredit/thwart shippers of other pairings. Like people who think Remus/Sirius could've never happened because Remus/Tonks did, or that Zuko/Sokka shippers are delusional because Zuko/Mai and Sokka/Suki happened. Have your OTP and whatever, but thinking that nobody else should be shipping outside of canon pairings is ridiculous.

There's a difference between an OTP and a ship, you know. Not everyone who ships something automatically assumes the pairing is exclusive, to "ship" something only technically means you think the characters are/have been sexually (or romantically if ace, I guess) involved.

It's the same thing as saying you slash something, basically, but since the term works for canon pairings as well it's been more or less adopted by fandom over the former term. You wouldn't automatically assume everyone's slash pairings are 100% exclusive, right?

Fandom isn't prudish, your definition is just off.
