Awww I'm so sorry OP. I really, really hope you find someone who you can be really good friends with. <3

Will it make you feel better that the Jane to my Daria found her Tom and I feel like we're perpetually stuck in the Daria feels abandoned situation? I don't think I'll ever end up stabbing her in the back like Daria did since her Tom and I don't like each other like that and we've known each other for years and we don't have common interests where we can relate to that she can't. I mean, we get along but he has his moments of douchebaggery. I just feel like she knows he acts like an asshole but chooses to stay with him because she's afraid to be alone. And that reflects on me because I am alone, so does she fear being lonely like me? And does that mean she pities me in my situation? Does it make me delusional to think that there is nothing wrong with me being by myself or should I start worrying now that I might be alone forever?

Ulgh, sorry for the rant. Seriously, I hope you find a good friend.

It means you should stop worrying so much about trying to live your friend's life for her and let her figure out how and why she's with the guy and if he's good for her. I understand that you feel abandoned, but you can't have a one-on-one friendship where all the attention is focused on you forever, people grow up and develop love interests. You talk about how you're ok alone, but you're essentially turning your friendships into relationships and treating them as such; so when they take their natural course and your friends start developing their lives you get jealous that you're not included as some sort of partner. You need to work on yourself and developing a wider friend group so that so much of your personal well-being doesn't rest on whether one friend is devoting all of her attention to you.

OP - you CAN find good friends like this, but you do have to make the effort to find them. You have to put yourself out there and try to meet people - it's not going to just fall in your lap. Life isn't like tv - you don't just bumble into your perfect person by chance - most of the time compatible people, friends and lovers and whathaveyou, find each other because they were willing to risk their egos and put themselves out there to go meet people.

The world is full of wonderful friendly people. You just have to give them, and yourself, a chance.

I feel the exact opposite of this. My closest friends are the ones who did fall into my lap. We automatically got along and have been friends ever since.

The ones who actually take effort usually end up being nothing more than distant friends or acquaintances. And if I stopped making contact with them, they probably wouldn't even bother checking up on me or giving me a call to find out if I'm ok. WHich sucks because sometimes it feels like I'm the one doing all the hard work to maintain a friendship that they aren't all that invested in.
