That said, I kind of understand, anon. Harry/Ginny is very cute, but I can totally see Harry/Hermione and I don't know why everyone acts like you have to be absolutely delusional to think they might do well together.

The "delusional" aspect came from the old ship wars days when many, many H/Hr fans were absolutely insistent that Harry/Hermione was canon and would be endgame canon and anyone who suggested otherwise was stupid, poor, hated Hermione and wanted to see her abused, etc. They backed up their claims with hundred-page literary analyses of H/Hr scenes that made use of bizarre, baroque literary symbols (I remember the escape on Buckbeak's back being compared to Egyptian ankhs?? Or something???) to prove their superior intelligence and education and based all their arguments on Ron being a horrible brute, with uncomfortable classist undertones. It was basically all pretty hilarious to anyone who could see the hamfisted R/Hr hints and OBHWF inevitability.

Just shipping it doesn't make someone delusional, though.
