I fucking hate her so much. She's incredibly annoying and I can't stand all the ~mysteries~ around her. Why should I care for her if I don't know who she even is? (and whose child she is was the squickiest revelation ever)

It drives me crazy that her fans consider you an anti-feminist if you don't love her.

In my case, it's because I spent the season half yelling "oh, just shag the Doctor! And invite the Ponds!" at the screen. I appreciate we were always unlikely to get a massive TARDIS-crew orgy in canon, but still...

Sleeping with your very close friend's daughter... that's just not cool. Plus he ~scored~ with both mother and daughter. It was non-con with the mother, but still.

Personally I find it squicky.

Oh, and if River was raised by her parents (which I hope she was, but then again, she did say she's from the 51st century...) she was surely told a ton of stories about her parents' adventures with their good friend, the Doctor. So it's a squicky that she'd react with I GOTTA SHAG THIS GUY instead of seeing him as an uncle figure or something.

Then again Moffat loves his trope of a "impressionable young girl" meeting the Doctor and proceeding to desperately want to get into his pants once she comes of age (Reinette, Amy, River).

It really makes it sound like the Doctor becomes her adoptive dad or something. From what's been hinted, it doesn't seem like Rory gets to be much of an important figure in her life. Her reaction to him in AGMGTW seemed a bit like "OMG, I'm meeting my dad for the first time...must be cool..." so the Doctor would be the closest thing. And she ends up shagging him. *gag*

Even if that's not what happens though, there's still something naturally squicky to me about having a friend of your parents meet you when you're newborn and then he gets excited when he finds out that not only does he find a way to rescue baby but he will also be doing her in the future. Again, I gag.

Spoiler warning:


It's not clear yet just how squicky it'll be, but in the S6 premier two-parter, she had that conversation with Rory where she said she first met the Doctor as a young girl, and that she lives for the times that they're together. We don't know just how young yet, but it's starting to seem like, each time they meet, she's going to be less and less the River we've known, until she's a (sort of) innocent but presumable abused young girl who encounters a powerful stranger who already knows the course of her entire life, who will set her on a path that will end in her not only defining her entire life by him, but also dying for him and ending up in a pseudo-afterlife we can now safely assume she'd hate.

True, most of that would be squicky even without the revelation, but I also thought it was really weird just how excited the Doctor was in AGMGTW to find out River's identity. It was like, "You mean, I'm probably going to end up banging that abducted baby conceived in my TARDIS (who's also the little girl in the space suit crying for help that Amy tried to kill) that's gonna get horribly abused and raised as a weapon? That's brilliant!"

And finally, between Reinette, Amy, and River, Moffatt sure seems to love his trope of little girls meeting the Doctor,becoming fixated, and desiring sexual relationships with him once they encounter him again as grown-ups. I guess that's one way to grow your perfect fantasy mistress, but it's not really what I want in my Doctor.
