It mysteriously disappeared when the game was actually released. It could have been media pressure (Fox News did a story specifically on ME and how 'corrupting' it was before it came out) or something from within Bioware at the last minute. IDK.

It was originally intended that the character could romance anyone (kaidan/m!shep or ashley/f!shep) in the first game. If you screw with the gender flags you can still go through with the romance because all the gay romance dialogue was kept in the game. Check it out (http://youtu.be/lPMOlEfhWGE). My f!Shep/Ashley game carried over into ME2 without any real problems. The reunion scene had the past relationship hug and the picture in the cabin was her. So if you really want to gaymance the first game, you can. And Bioware is including actual working m/m relationships in ME3, which is great.

Wow fox news is a piece of shit.

I thought it was engine troubles during the sex sequence (re: why Man!Shep magically becomes female in the video you linked to) and they couldn't fix it by production deadline.

Eh, I don't think so. They didn't have any problems reusing the animation for every romance with every character. That seems pretty easy to sort out with the gender flags. I think they just took it out.

I don't think so... They did the same with ME2, if I'm not mistaken - most of the same-sex romance lines are recorded again, aren't they?, but not used. ... They should release patches for ME1 and 2 with the third game to unlock those and include a sex scene for ME1. >:3 Oh, I would be on that like gravity on Jupiter~ ♫

I know. It could work! It WOULD work! Hell, I'd pay them for a DLC that included that shit! COME ON, BIOWARE, DO IT!

I believe, if I'm not mistaken, the way you do this is to start your new character as the opposite of the gender you'd like to be - this sets all the preliminary flags and whatnot - then switch them early on. The game will work PERFECTLY with your gender reassigned save for... I'm counting 3 glitches, but I might be off:

First, during the sex scene, you'll switch bodies. You can see that in the video. Also the second glitch: the dialogue directly after is broken. We don't get to hear Mark Meer say sweetheart. XD THIRD... is actually in Mass Effect 2. The game will react just like normal, everything will work just as it should, until you meet up with your LI again later on. And they will address you as the wrong gender.

I actually haven't done this, mostly because I'm too lazy, but also partially out of stubbornness. There's some faulty logic where I insist that I shouldn't HAVE to sneak around and hack my game just to get a same-sex romance (that isn't the technically genderless Liara or the very undeveloped romance that is Kelly... or, you know, a gay man romance) and thus, I refuse to... even at the expense of the romance. :< Logic, where did you fail me?!

This has restored my faith in Bioware (and made me hate Fox News that much more). Thank you.

I think the procedure is to enable the console, start a game as a male Shepard, then switch the gender later on? It would probably work if you switched as soon as you gained control, but if you want to be sure, wait until you finish on Eden Prime... I've never actually done it...

I dunno, I might be wrong, but based on what I know of how the game works and stores information, and what I know of manipulating Mass Effect 2 save files, it should work.

Ah, I have the PC version. It's okay, I'll continue to romance her as a m!Shep. I need another couple more playthroughs before ME3 anyway.

........ I forget not everyone plays on the computer... ^^;;;
