But the love that Harry and Hermione have for Ron (platonic and otherwise) is real. And I can't imagine what Ron would do if they ever started dating. Harry is more mature than Ron and can handle being the odd man out sometimes ... mostly because of his loner attitude/no one understands me/God complex. But think of how Ron would have been ruined if Harry and Hermione ended up together. If they did, Jo would have destroyed Ron's character.
People have pointed out how their bickering didn't necessarily mean they would be a couple and that bickering doesn't always mean love. That might be true. But read the books and you'll see Ron was in love with Hermione. Maybe she didn't feel the same way for a while, but he was definitely in love with her.
And therein lies my problem with H/Hr. It totally disregards Ron. It throws him away like a less equal part of the OT3. He isn't a strong person, so I feel like H/Hr makes everything the horcrux said to Ron true. I feel like he would have sunk deeper and deeper into that mindset until he wasn't the person Harry and Hermione loved anymore.
Part of my opinion comes from the fact that Ron is my favorite character. I've been the Ron of my family and of a group of friends. I think Ron has definite issues, but I think he tries hard - for Hermione and Harry. If he felt betrayed by either of them ... well you saw what happened in GoF (with Harry) and HBP (with Hermione). He can't take it. And I don't see how H/Hr fans can so readily toss Ron and his friendship with Harry. Don't you think that it would be completely over between them? I can't see that as something Ron would ever get over. That's not saying Ron is the best and Harry is the worst character of all time...
I just like Ron and I see Harry and Hermione as a dissolution of the OT3. I see it as throwing Ron and his character away and ignoring that they work well as a trio. On the other hand I felt like R/Hr was natural, even if the romance wasn't natural. Harry is a bit of a loner. He knows he needs people and loves when his two best friends are around, but Harry grew up as a loner. He is strong enough to be alone, even if it's not what he wants. But Harry would leave his two best friends to be alone quite a bit. It's only natural that Ron and Hermione's friendship would grow stronger (that's not saying they have to be in love. I'm just saying the strengthening of their bond was natural).
