The only part of vegetarianism/animal activism I mind is the vocal part to be honest. I have no intention of shoving steak in someone's mouth if they do not want to eat it. What I do mind is hearing about why they are vegetarians every time we meet and/or have lunch together.

I get it. You don't eat meat. You think animals are people too. Fine. But I'm going to enjoy my chicken wings now regardless.

I don't really appreciate the implication that we're all like that. I have no problem with other people eating meat/consuming animal products. What I do have a problem with is when people assume that I am self-righteous and judgmental. And that's AT BEST. Most of the time, other people are too busy judging me for my diet to even listen to what I do/do not have to say about it.

It must suck to adhere the dominant standard on how/what to eat.

I wasn't implying you are all like that. I'm saying that those who are, are rather annoying. I know people of either variety: people that you don't even know are vegetarian unless you eat with them regularly, and people who are sure to mention it every time they can. And then add that you should have taken your bike instead of your car to cut down on pollution, even though it's raining and cold outside (and yes, I *really* know someone like that, and unfortunately she's in my social circle I'm bound to be in the same company as her sometimes). She's actually a really cool person in other aspects, which is a pity.

I understand the other side must suck as well, where people are telling you to "eat some meat" because you must be unhealthy if you don't. But there is a brand of vegetarian who sits on a high horse and looks at you in disdain for murdering baby cows. I'm sure you're not one of them. But they exist. I've met several of them.

I think at least half of the vegetarians agree with you. We're told so often that the way we're eating is wrong or unhealthy, I find it facepalmingly hilarious that some vegetarians turn right around and bitch at people who eat meat, without even realizing or caring how annoying it is. Maybe they just want revenge. :P

Yeahhhh, stuff like that is just annoying. I've got a friend who constantly reminds people that she won't/can't eat greasy foods, when it's really not necessary. I think with things like that, for every person trying to shove an agenda down your throat, there's another who just wants the attention. And probably another who's doing both.

What's awkward is when people ask why you're a vegetarian. I've yet to find a way of saying "I don't like eating animals" that doesn't sound smug and condescending.
