Same. Ah, those were the simpler days. Lol

I didn't write back then, and even now I'm more of a lurker. (English isn't my first language, it would be the horrible icing on the already holy-crap-that's-bad 13 year old writing cake). I get the annoyance with the walking out though...

I can't really remember what modem we had. Everything did take forever though. My internet now isn't awesome, but I'm not sure if I could still live with dial up...

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, don't worry. I'm a native English speaker and those fics were still godawful. (On the other hand, I think fics I did two years ago were still godawful, so...)

14.4 is preeeetty much the slowest XD

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
It's good to be critical of one's work I guess. I'm usually too chickenshit to post anything I write (unless it's been beta'd extensively).

I think we might've had a modem with a similar speed then haha.

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 08:44 am (UTC)(link)
Can you maybe start off with a small audience? Like just posting it on your locked journal, or something. It might help you gain confidence.

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Like I said, I lurk a lot. This means I don't have many folks around watching my journal. (I'm pretty boring haha) So there wouldn't really be people to comment or critique and all that. Also, some of the fandoms care me just a little bit, with the constant flow of amazing fic by good writers. I guess I just should hang out more and find more fandom friends to bother with it.

I do have some stuff on my journal though, but yeah... /needs to be more active first anyway :D

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, okay... honestly, I'd probably just post to the fandom comms anyway. Everyone judges their own work harshly, right? I definitely wouldn't consider myself to be one of the better writers in my fandom, but... I've had my fics recommended before, and I get favourites and comments. You're probably a better writer than you give yourself credit for.

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I suppose. I wouldn't know though; I think it's really hard to judge your own writing aside from the whole 'I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with it' thing.

If you don't mind me asking, what (other) fandoms are you into? Haha, this nostalgia thread sort of made me miss the days I was into the GW fandom. :)

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
My only real fandom is Legend of Zelda, and my main before that was Doctor Who. Other stuff I haven't really written much for, though.

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. It's pretty awesome that LoZ is pretty much forever going with the games. I really want to play the games for the DS, but yeah, they're around 40 euros per game here so that won't happen anytime soon :P

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
The Zelda series is older than I am! (By nine months.) It will so never die.

Damn, that's about as much as they are in Australia. I actually bought American consoles so I can buy cheaper American games XD;; They're like half the price!

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
Nice. I soubt it'll die as well.

An american ds? I have the oldest version. It eas a gift. Maybe when i'm in canada...

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 11:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - well, my Lite is Australian (second-hand), but I had an American DSi which I'm... actually currently selling on eBay XD And now I have an American 3DS.

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh, nice. I had to use my money for college and stuff (books etc) so importing (ebay) wasn't really an option. I might just consider getting a 3ds. Is it any good? :)

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh - I'm really lucky this semester, the only texts I need are... well, course notes for one subject. And that comes to under $20. Plus, the 3DS is technically an extremely late birthday (November!)/Christmas present XD

It's fantastic :) Granted, I did get it solely for Ocarina at this point, but...

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Nice and nice. (Late) birthday pressents are the best <3 I honestly have no idea what I'll be needing. I'll be abroad finishing my minor and getting a complete set of different courses while there. Of course we need to buy our own books and stuff. I hope it's not going to be crazy.

Oh man haha, I guess I should look into getting one while abroad. I bet they're cheaper there too :P (Canadian dollar's lower in value than the euro so... who knows).

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, I did a semester abroad last year! Have an awesome time!

And yeah, from memory, the prices are about the same in Canada as in the US. Might be a little bit off.

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-01 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I hope I will <3 Did you go to the States for it? (Curious because of the pricing comment haha). I'm very curious to see how big of a culture shock it'll be. Possibly people being more polite over there I think. X)

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yup :) To University of Arizona. It was fantastic. Best place ever for astronomy!

Heh, Canadians are pretty polite. Where abouts are you going?

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Astronomy? :o sounds awesome.

I'm going to Toronto, Seneca college. I think it's mostly pr related courses that we'll get.

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
Yup - especially in planetary science and ESPECIALLY for Mars. They ran the Phoenix mission, the HiRISE telescope on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, a ton of other things...

Ooh, okay... my experience with Toronto is limited to transitting at the airport between Vancouver and Montreal (I literally had fifteen minutes between transfers! Ran from one plane only to join the line to board the other... then sat on the runway for an hour while we waited to get sprayed with antifreeze), but by all accounts, it's pretty neat :) Have fun!

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow. That must'vd been an awesome experience, just.being ther.

15 minutes? What about luggage and stuff? Gotta love airplanes. The sci fi geek in me really wants to visit Vancouver. (they film so many shows there <3) Not that I'd see much I guess, but still! Downtown Yoronto sounds pretty fun from what I know of it though :)

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
It was pretty cool :)

Had a connection, so they pretty much labelled my suitcase as "PUT ON OTHER PLANE ASAP". Plus, you do sit for a while before pulling away. And I definitely wanted to see more of Vancouver, it was basically just in transit :( I had more time in Victoria, though, and it's lovely! Royal BC Museum is amazing.

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 08:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ah yeah, I guess that would help. I've only flown 4 times. (Both being return trips) So I'm not really experienced with the whole 'go to the airport and fly' thing. I usually try to take flights that don't have extra stops (you know, unless I have to or unless it costs a lot less than a direct flight ahaha).

Would you go back for a holiday in Canada if you had the chance? :) I'm not sure I'll have much time to travel; I don't particularly fancy being alone around Christmas and new years, and the semester ends halway December I think. If I can though, I'll probably plan a short vacation after it haha. (See more of the country)

[identity profile] ryttu3k.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
Heh - over the course of my exchange, I racked up about sixty, sixty-five hours of air time, and I've flown pretty regularly (once a year or so) back here. So I'm pretty well experienced with it *grin* And yeah, unfortunately, the only direct Vancouver-Montreal flight as at a really bad hour for me - sometimes, you do need stopovers just so you can get in at a sane hour!

And absolutely :) But I'd focus mostly on the West Coast, since I loved it over there. Victoria, Vancouver, the Rockies... I'd combine it with the West Coast of the US, too, and visit my beloved San Francisco, get more than two days in Seattle, and see Portland, too. And maybe a trip out camping at one of the Cascades if I go during summer. And I was in SF for Christmas and New Years - it was different, but it wasn't bad :)

[identity profile] ragnild.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
That's a lot of air time... How long was your exchange? X) I heard from one of the exchange students from Seneca that we really won't have a lot of time. Lots of time goes into classes and projects apparently. (The groupwork might kill me). I sort of hope she's wrong, but I doubt it :P (Ah well, I guess that's what I get for choosing to study communication).

Ah yeah, I think that if I don't visit the West Coast myself, I won't get to go there. I'm in the greater Toronto area, the college is located in North York I believe, which at least, is the part above Toronto (downtown Toronto? I'm not even sure. I was so confused when they first said 'greater Toronto area' haha). I think, if I ever visit the States I want to be there during the San Diego Comic Con (and actually go there). ....One day! haha :)
