Erm, I think you mean he openly admits it?

I meant Looney Tunes Back in Action, Disney got extensive permission to use the Looney Tunes in Roger Rabbit.

Also, you need to recognize inspiration is different than plagiarism. Tracing a drawing != both having a villain with a scar over one eye. The main difference is whether it is a derivative work/was the original made into a new thing. To cite the fanfic example (though ludicrous in premise), there's a huge difference between using a handful of phrasings from one, or even a plot point or two, and C&Ping the whole thing and changing the names. Using the few interesting phrasings and plot points isn't plagiarism.

*rolls eyes* How about someone who is actually familiar with the industry and has some understanding of what plagiarism really is?

Also, you can be subconsciously influenced by other things all the time, particularly common tropes like "hyperactive bird" or "wise monkey." Heck, one times I was trying to draw a big and graceful bear and ended up with (essentially) the charmin bear. I didn't realize it until days after I drew it.

I'm not saying that they didn't copy certain elements from Kimba, whether meaning to or not, but you're jumping the gun there by calling it plagiarism. In the same way, for ages Dreamworks ripped off the Pixar movies (Antz and A Bug's Life, SharkTale and Finding Nemo, possibly Sinbad and Atlantis), but afaik there wasn't legal action there even if it was just as blatant.

Or to put it another way "My Little Pony is totally plagiarizing Carebears!" Both star oddly colored mammals with largely humanized faces and short muzzles. Both feature cute symbols that relate to their name and possibly powers. They generally resolve menial squabbles, by understanding others' points of view, but are occasionally threatened by more intimidating villains who generally try to take the light and color out their worlds. Both live in other-realm utopias, but still have some interaction humans. Later more varieties are introduced, expanding the universe to make more toys. They are currently both getting a reboot in flash animation with a somewhat Japanese influenced design.

Coincidence? I can see where it looks like it's ripping it off, but those are relatively common tropes of 80's cartoons too. Not to mention, animal characters with cute symbols isn't exactly the new frontier.
