Yeah, when everybody gets over the fact that...uh...1x2 was never going to be canon anyway, but that shouldn't stop people from shipping it and 1xR was so vague in-series that the conundrum is easily solved by writing them as awesome BFFs. No bashing required! It's easy, mmk.

I got involved in the Relena-bashing because I had zero self-esteem around 2000-2001 and didn't think anyone in fandom would talk to me otherwise. But I swear, my experience in GW fandom really made it difficult to get into slash because based on observation, I thought shipping it made you batshit. Yeah, getting harassed off a Treize mailing list for shipping him with Une instead of Zechs didn't help...

Gundam fandom is a hard place to be a girl, period, but it always made me sad how in the one Gunam series where there actually were a lot of female fans, there was SO MUCH WOMAN-BASHING, usually by other female fans. =/ At least the dudes in UC fandom I hung out with largely ignored the ladies versus actively bashing them to so-bad-it-reads-like-parody levels.

I was mostly just like "Oh wow yeah I'M BACKING AWAY FROM YOU CRAZIES" in Wing fandom, but I was fourteen and it was my introduction to Gundam (and one of my first fandoms), so yeah. It's a wonder I stayed and a wonder I gained an appreciation of slash because, man, they scared me. WHAT kicked of a Treize mailing list, THAT IS A CRIME. /favorite forever.

I know, and now when I see it go on in other fandoms, it just makes me sad all over again =/ It was my intro to Gundam, too, but I didn't quite have the confidence to back away from the crazies. Even when I joined in the bashing just to be one of the cool people, I was like "=/ =/ =/" behind my computer.

Yep. Apparently you couldn't be a Treize fan without being a Treize/Zechs fan. It was a rule or something. And yeah, Treize is, was, and will always be my favorite male of the series. One of the few characters I can name who succeeded at world domination, and did it through sheer political cunning.
