Well, they did retcon Gwen's children to be Norman's because the writers thought having kids would age Peter. In One More Day, they also got rid of May "Mayday" Parker's existence.

So Marvel comes pretty close but I agree that DC has gotten a much more severe case of chronic stupidity.

One More Day was some screwed up shite, I agree. OMD, the cannibalism in ultimatum and the horrific stuff around Carol Danvers getting pregnant. Although Marvel has since apologized for the last. I find it idiotic that they didn't realize they were basically writing rape, but at least they admitted that they WERE idiots not to realize. And the largest impact OMD had on the greater Marvel universe was to make it so Spiderman hadn't revealed himself in Civil War.

DC, on the other hand, is changing everyone's plot and status quo, torturing Superboy for no reason, stripping characters of their personality traits or very existances for little reason, and basically telling their entire fanbase to STFU when they express concerns. DC's case is a million times worse.

Granted, I'm coming off some of DCs ridiculously stupid remarks at SDCC, in contrast to Marvel who gave us Jim Hammond as an Easter egg in Captain America. My wounds are wide and raw at the moment.

You know the sad thing is I could accept some (not all, but some) of these massavie changes DC is making if they weren't taking place on the main DC Earth.

And I can't believe how idiotic Didio and the other writers came off at the panels in SDCC. (I wasn't there but the blog posts about how stupidly they attempted to answer legitamate concerns about female representation at DC, was just baffaling.)

I'm not sure if I'll be getting issues of the reboot (or the Flashpoint trade, if they make it a trade; I'm sick of the way they've been portraying the Amazons in recent years) or not. I'll probably stick to older trades and watching the Young Justice cartoon.

I am going to be reading four series in the reboot. There are characters I love too much to just drop, so I'm giving DC a brief chance to prove to me that they're somehow not ruining everyone and everything I care about in the DCU. If after six months they haven't done that, I will be done with them.

But mostly I am intending to buy older stuff, and not necessarily even in trades, depending on just how bad the reboot is once I see it with my own eyes (I mean, there's always a chance these people are better at writing than they are at giving interviews). Single issues are bulky and hard to deal with, but in buying them I can support my local comic book store without actually giving DC too much money.

You're lucky you have a local comic book store.

To get comics I have to take the subway and go to either Midtown Comics or Forbidden Planet. Or get trades from Barnes and Noble.

Maybe I'll get first issues of Wonder Woman, Batman, Batwoman, and Teen Titans.

I...find myself local comic book stores. Right now I'm lucky enough to have one near my apartment, but come September the nearest one is going to be 30 miles away. Since I have a medical condition and can't drive...it's going to be interesting figuring out how to get there.

However, I have something of a fondness for comic book stores and the environment they provide for the geek community, so I try my best to find one and support it whenever I can.

I'm giving trial runs to Green Arrow, Blue Beetle, Red Hood and the Outlaws and Green Lantern: New Guardians. To be honest, I think Outlaws is going to incite me into rage and GL:NG is going to be horrible, but my loyalty to Roy Harper and my fondness for Kyle Rayner are getting in the way of my good judgement.

I'm sorry. But does the comic book store have a mailing policy?

I know what you mean about comic book stores. I used to have one near my high school but it closed down the summer after I graduated because their buisness was suffering due to the economy.

How could I forget Blue Beetle? I'll have to add that to my list.

You're braver than me for trying Green Arrow again. I gave up that title in disgust when Winnick took over, and didn't pick it up again because the guy after him was just as bad.

[identity profile] krillia.livejournal.com 2011-08-02 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
You're not the first one to tell me that I'm brave for trying Green Arrow. ^^; I am most concerned with the deaging and the potential it has to simply make him generic and/or his Smallvilke counterpart. I mean, I didn't disklike the smallvilke version, but he's not Ollie. Comics is a land of constantly changing authors and my fondness tends to be able to endure a couple of bad ones in a row. Otherwise I would hate Roy Harper for the terrible writing in Rise of Arsenal. -.-

The problem with the reboot is that it is universe-wide. it isn't like usual, when I can just curl up with a different series/character and wait for the shitestorm to blow over
