I feel a little of both =(

I feel trapped by your icon because there's something hypnotizing about it and I can't stop watching it. o.o

But it's the pelvic thrusts that'll drive you insa-a-a-ane! Let's do the time warp again!

I could not help myself.

As in, the world seems limited and unexciting? I assure you were the Tardis to be permanently crashed on earth, the Doctor would still find oodles of adventures--you can too.

Or do you mean the show itself keeps you trapped from your life? Because you can have both. :)

[identity profile] brynspikess.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
lol, wasn't that almost the whole tagline of the Sarah Jane Adventures? "I saw amazing things, out there in space. But there is strangeness to be found wherever you turn. Life on Earth can be an adventure too... you just need to know where to look!"

It did for the Third Doctor. And he sure did! ^_^

I sort of get what the OP means. But the Earth has it's beautiful, adventurous areas. You've just gotta find them.

lol i KNEW someone was going to say this when i saw this secret. and you're right. but sometimes one feels the urge to zoom about in outer space, which cannot be satisfied with any available technology :)

I was going to say this... but then I thought about Donna. After first meeting the Doctor, she traveled a little but eventually had to return home to her normal life. I think that's what would happen to me.

Except that you can't be comfrotably hobo like The Doctor is.
AND most of the unique and wonderful places on this Earth are now closed to the public enjoyment as well. Preservation. The mineral springs in turkey? Closed.
You can passivly look, but experience wise not so exciting and most of us can't go on a permanent journey of learning, discovery and exploration. We have to work and have a place to live.

He has a portable nice place to sleep in and an infinite wardrobe.

reading epic space operas makes me feel this way, sometimes. or reading about the space shuttle program being dismantled. sometimes I just need to get off this planet and go-- oh wait. that's right. there isn't anywhere to go. *sigh*

Same here. Even though we have all this wonderful tech now, in my head, it won't be "the future" until I can get off this rock.

Totally agreed. I grew up on Star Trek, so while I understood intellectually that it makes a lot more sense to get our shit together down here on Earth before we can make a serious effort for the stars, I felt like something had died in me when last space mission for the foreseeable future concluded and the twenty-third/fourth century and the Enterprise and the United Federation of Planets got that much further away.

I know the feeling. I feel hopeful because of the messages of the show, that human kind is essentially good and the idea that no matter who you are, the Doctor will find something amazing about you. The idea that anyone could be a Rose Tyler or a Donna Noble fills me with hope.

Then again, I think that I'll never be able to be on the TARDIS. And that's sad.

I feel hopeful because of the messages of the show, that human kind is essentially good and the idea that no matter who you are, the Doctor will find something amazing about you.

I think the moment that cemented me as a Doctor who fan was 'The End of the World,' when the Doctor and Rose go to the window and see Earth and the Doctor says 'none of you ever think about humanity making it this far.' Something about that was so simple and yet so profound. It's that moment that I can understand why the Doctor keeps looking to humanity - despite our self-destructive attitudes and cynicism, we keep going, we keep fighting, keep trying to make it to tomorrow, despite the darkness of today. It's that little bit of amazing that keeps the Doctor coming back to humanity.

[identity profile] granular.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
I get what you mean, OP. But there are so many amazing things to do and see here on Earth (too many to fit into one lifetime!) so don't feel that you can't do awesome things without the Doctor :)

hlaskfgnadlfkg I know EXACTLY what the fuck you mean. :(

[identity profile] faith-less-one.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
*hugs OP*

I sometimes feel like that. Then I remember that the Doctor still managed to have a load of awesome adventures just on modern-day Earth. There's no reason we can't too!

[identity profile] aonele.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same with with StarGate. I recently went on a trip in Europe, and it was so tiring. I told myself that if I ever want to travel again, I'll just sit my butt down and watch some StarGate instead. Takes me to places without actually having to move, haha.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-05 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so sad, it actually gives me a tummy-ache.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-05 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
A little late but...I feel the same way - though I doubt it's for the same reason.

Personally I feel trapped because people won't stop trying to make me watch Dr. Who - even after I tell them I'm not interested [at this point in time] > /

(Anonymous) 2011-08-05 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My mom's garden can be a fuckin' adventure if I just pay enough attention to it. Putting on some nice clothes and going to a café I never visited before for some coffee and new people is pretty exciting too. And man, don't even get me started on visiting another country or just heading out into nature. Nature makes me want to write poetry! Now, that's an adventure right there.

Don't let Doctor Who limit you with its SciFi shenanigans! There's lots of wonder on our planet. The Internet just makes it feel very small while we're sitting in front of our computers.
