I would bet you dollars to donuts if I had any of either that anon would've thought the ending was ~perfect had it wound up Zutara. After all, Zutara is the answer to the series' every flaw, since it's such a perfectly perfect ship full of perfection.

If I had been writing the ending, yeah I would probably have chosen to make it Zutara as I think it's more interesting (I was neutral towards Kataang). However, I was actually planning a fanfiction with a friend (pre-finale) and found myself favoring Kataang in that story. Sorry to burst your bubble.

*shrug* I dunno. You just sound more and more like every other butthurt Zutara shipper out there vehemently trying to deny how butthurt they are but always coming back to the goddamn shipping whenever a finale discussion comes up. And I used to ship it a teeny tiny casually curious bit, for about 5 seconds, until the Zutara fandom drove me nuts with the constant bashing and whining and scary obsession over two fictional characters not kissing. I just don't get how who's kissing could possibly be more important to people than the world getting saved and Azula going crazy and good and bad guys beating each other up and the fucking volcano fight and all the other awesome stuff the finale had.

Nah, I brought up a lot of things here: http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/734647.html?thread=465659831#t465659831 that would have still bothered me even if it had been Zutara. If anything else, I feel like everyone is insisting that it was really because of the shipping. (Note my early responses - Kataang wasn't adequate for Kataang; romance was secondary, but all the relationships bothered me; then finally when it was shipping only comment, yes I focused on it.)

See the volcano fight didn't do it for me, because of how Aang got into the Avatar State, the rock bullets, nope not impressed. I wasn't big on crazy Azula because I didn't want her defanged before they fought her. At the end it was interesting, but before that, I was kind of "eh" about it.

It's kind of hard to take you seriously, though, when in one breath you say shipping was the "least of your concerns", then turn around one comment later and say the relationships were a "major focus." Pick one, because it can't be both.

Relationships != romantic relationships, and I think I specifically talked about a friendship.

If you want to show me where I said shipping was a major focus, please do!

You said "platonic ones, too" and you were asked specifically about romance in the comment before that. Backpedal a little faster. Or just admit that you actually are butthurt instead of pulling arguments ouit of your ass to cover it up (because that can't be good for an already chapped ass).

No, you're butthurt (and in denial of it) because you keep insisting that you're not all about the shipping, yet you can't decide if it was the "least of your concerns" or a primary focus. If the platonic relationships were truly important to you but not the shipping, you would have just said when asked about the shipping "no, I was more concerned with the character dynamics than who hooked up", not "the relationships were a primary focus for me, the platonic ones, too." You keep tripping over yourself and making it obvious that you aren't being honest when you're posting with your gut. I've seen the pattern in Zutara fen often enough to recognize it by now.

*sigh* Relationships are a large focus of the show, platonic and romantic. However, the people comprising those relationships were not. I would have been fine with Zuko and Aang bffs, I would have been fine with Katara and Aang hooking up and Mai and Zuko hooking up. My real complaint is that the relationships were not done well as relationships, regardless of who was in them.

However, if you want to keep ignoring it and claiming I'm the butthurt one, go ahead, have fun.

Relationships of any kind a huge focal point of the show? Brb, loling forever.

Ha ha sarcasm. But Zutara isn't perfect. It would be a huge steaming pile of WTF? So what if Zuko jumped in front of the lightning. Aang saved the whole damned world. And if you can't see what she might find appealing in Aang, then how the hell are you going to see what she could possibly like about Zuko who she hated for 90% of the series.

Kataang could have been better, but Zutara isn't the answer. It's a bigger mess of plot issues and character issues. And people whine about "hero getting the girl" and then turn hypocrite by making it "redemption earns you big prizes" or by claiming that Zuko is the real hero and he should have been with Katara (forgetting that that makes it hero gets the girl again)

I'm not overly wild about shipping, but I hate stupidity. And the argument that the series would have fared better with Zutara is ridiculous.

and what I mean by that is, he didn't go into the fight with Ozai with the intent to access the Avatar State. he just ...hoped he could beat him. thank the rock & lionturtle! they essentially saved the world.

it's even specifically quoted in the Sozin's Comet comic books (which I think were creator-sanctioned), that Aang decided keeping Katara was more important than achieving control over the Avatar State and thus saving the world.

aang picked his attachment issues over anything else in his life, despite his duty as the avatar to do otherwise for the sake of everyone else.

But that is not a surprise. We knew that. The fact is though he still trained, still was prepared to face the fire lord. The fact that he chose love over power is very human. And very Aang. And i liked that they gave him that flaw (although i dont necessarily see it as one). Kept him from being some child superbeing with no dilemmas.

Eh to me Aang saved the world.

...and Zuko saved Katara. You said, how the hell are you going to see what she could possibly like about Zuko who she hated for 90% of the series? How can we not? He selflessly saved her life.

My point is that Aang wasn't selfless. Selflessness is sacrifice. You could say Aang 'sacrificed' by going to go face Ozai, but he was supposed to do that from the very start. That was his duty, his obligation as Avatar. To sacrifice is to give up something that you hadn't planned on...knowing that you may or may not get it back. It's the very definition of what selflessness is.

No it isn't. "Sacrifice" is giving up something very important to you with the knowledge that you will never get it back. Whether that's planned or not is irrelevant.

Zuko was being a cocky. And he was stupid. He assumed his sister was off her game. He thought she would shoot the lightning at him, but he miscalculated. He put Katara in that position. That book even has Katara concerned over his behavior. "Don't get cocky."

And if we are talking about selflessness, then Mai is a good example. And her act of saving Zuko gets shit on.
