Danny changed more than Sandy. BUT THAT'S OK, RIGHT? They both tried to be the person the other wanted and Danny spent more time trying to be different.

It's funny how everyone always forget this so they can shout about how creepy it was for Sandy to try to fit in with his clique.

It seems like some people (like in a comment above) don't actually see Danny as changing since he's just "joining the track team." Not seeing that joining a school sports activity where you wear a uniform and have to follow a code of behavior is a huge change for a guy whose personality is about rejecting all of that. Also him acting like a "gentleman" boyfriend is not a change the way Sandy looking "fast" is.

Not to mention the "critics" and "feminists" conveniently forget that, more than once, Sandy found herself in trouble because of her wholesome girl side. Remember "Look at me I'm Sandra Dee", with Rizzo and the Pink Ladies singing it to actually mock Sandy, and her being all "... you're bullying me gais" when she heard them? And remember Cha-cha (may her actress rest in peace) actually pushing her out of her and Danny's way in the middle of the dancing contest and stealing Sandy's moment to shine? Her passive stance wasn't exactly the best way to react, either.

And had Sandy not "changed", let's be honest: "critics" would have complained anyway. "Oh God, Sandy is a boring Mary Sue, she gets everything handed on a silver platter by being such a little virginal damsel in distress, she never does anything to ~deserve~ the good things that happen to her! What a plain, stupid, helpless little bitch, how is ANYONE supposed to symphatize with her?"

TL;DR: Women can't win EVER, and Sandy is a great example of that. She stays passive, she's hated. She changes her attitude, she's hated. And Danny isn't bashed half the way she is.

I don't think people bash her; I think they see her as a victim. If they're bashing anyone, it's the writers, or the rest of the characters collectively, which is too big of a target to coherently hate on.

Depends where the ayrt hangs out in Grease discussions, I guess. I know the IMDB boards had a guy or two bashing her for turning into a dumb slut. But that's IMDB. Not really an intelligent place to hang out.

Not to mention in the musical, she not only dresses more revealing but also punches another girl (a ditzy cheerleader, even!) to prove how "changed" she is. And in the original pre-Broadway version, tells Danny that if he wants her love, he's gonna have to get down on his knees and kiss her "where she's tender". Yeeeep. She also says "Fuck it" at the end of the original Broadway version, but critics complained about Carole Demas cursing (since she was the host of a kids' show at the time), so they had to revise the line to "The hell with it". I think that might've even been toned down further for revivals.

What also gets overlooked is they're supposed to be seniors in high school. Think back when you were a teenager and how many times did you change or reinvent yourself? I know I went through at least 3 or 4 different phases as did practically everyone I knew. You're supposed to be changing and trying to find out who you are. I bet in a year or two both Sandy and Danny were completely different people because they clearly were still searching for their identity. Especially since they were part of a group or clique in high school and once they graduate that will dissolve because it doesn't hold the same sort of status.
