Hateful asks? Am I missing something here?

As a big Dean/Cas shipper, I'm sincerely sorry that happened to you. I've actually had a couple of experiences along the same lines from Wincest shippers, and it sucks when people are jerks just because you don't ship and/or like the same pairing they do.

All that said, I don't think it's fair to associate all Destiel fans with that one blog and its followers. That would be like me saying, just because I've had a couple of really bad experiences with Wincest fans, that all Wincest shippers are crazy assholes. Sure, some of them are, but not everyone who ships the brothers is gonna act like complete jerks just because someone else does not or because they do ship Dean/Cas.

Ussing tumblr "ask" to send hateful messages? I'm just guessing.

The way people send messages on Tumblr is to go to someone's page and click on their "ask" link. You can change the wording but the page says "ask me anything!" by default.

And OP, you shouldn't be afraid to reach out. If you are respectful in airing your opinions then people should be respectful in return. I bet you could've actually reported that blog for harassment or something, that's really immature and hateful behavior.

Both ships have haters. I'm not going to associate the crazy Wincest fans with every Wincest fan just because some of them are jerks. That's unfair to all the nice ones.

SPN FANDOM, Y U NO GET ALONG!

I'm sorry man. I've had similar hate from some self proclaimed Sam!girls. It's hard to remember that not everyone in that section of fandom is like the loudest jerks who attract the most attention, but it is true. I see crazy on both sides of the aisle, but I also see a lot of level headed reasonable people who recognize that a ship is just a fun thing and it's not worth getting mad and hating on others for.

At comic con I met a Sam!girl wincest shipper who was afraid to admit it to me because she thought I'd hate her. I told her I wouldn't and I thought she'd hate me for being a Cas!girl Destiel shipper and she's like "no way!" and we hugged and it was wonderful. I wish I could remember her screen name because I'd totally be friending her all over the place. I've made some Wincest shipper friends online too lately and we have no qualms with each other. It's really nice. :)

Anyway, moral of the story: not everyone who likes a certain thing is an asshole even if there are a lot of loud assholes who like that same thing.

I'm so sorry that happened to you, I hope you can face your fear and get back into fandom. If you let the haters scare you away, they've won. Don't let the assholes win, hon. :(

But yeah, luckily I haven't had much experience with the angry mob mentality but I've heard so many nasty things about all sides of the SPN fandom. Why can't we just all be friends no matter what we ship? x__x

As a Supernatural fangirl, let me apologize for the fandom. It's unfortunate that the most active fans are the craziest. Personally, I love Wincast, and somehow I end up hated more than those who support one or the other. Go figure. ^^;;

But why were you bashing Castiel in a Destiel forum? That just seems to be asking for trouble.

OP might not have been addressing Castiel/Destiel fans in particular, but the way Tumblr works, just tagging a post for content puts the post in a place where those fans will see it.

I don't ship Dean/Cas (actually Cas/Anna is my OTP, which is probably enough to get me lynched in any number of places,) but as a huge Castiel fan, I'm really sorry they were such jerks.

That said...not an interesting character? You and I must be watching two different shows. :)

It's people like you that make me think that hardcore Castiel fans really are watching a different show from everyone else. Yes, it is possible to find the character not particularly interesting.

I'm not in your fandom, but one thing I did notice in mine is... people in fandom really get riled if you say you dislike something. I never thought it was a big deal to do so, but it's taken as "shipwarring," and once you've "shipwarred," people consider you less than a cockroach on the social totem pole and they behave brutally because you dared to "dis" what they like. (Even if all you did was mention that you don't like it, and explain why calmly while saying several times over that you have no issue with people who do.)

I got my repute back after many long months basically by never talking about things I don't like and ceasing to bother to defend the things I do. It sucks that people don't recognize a distinction between "discussion" and "shipwarring," but most people take this shit way too seriously and are looking for wank. Just don't tell people what you dislike, and only give one word answers whent hey ask why. Fandom gonna hate. And fandom gonna misinterpret.

90% of the Supernatural Fandom are frakking crazy. That's why I got out. Well mostly the show started sucking hardcore and I lost all interest in the show...but also mostly because it's fans were destroying my will to live on this planet anymore.

Most of the crazy I experienced was the bitter battlelines drawn between the Deanaholics and the rabid!sam!fans and mostly everyone's inability to comprehend the idea that one can be bi-brotherly in their supernatural love. If I dared to suggest a liking of Sam my opinions were instantly disregarded, if I then turned around and suggested a liking of Dean I was told that I did not like Dean because I liked Sam and therefore I was being a lying liar who lies.

Ah SPN. I don't miss you.

Supernatural fandom is a big ball of crazy, but lately I've found that hardcore Castiel fans are the absolute craziest. It's like they live and breathe for that damn character, and GOD FORBID you suggest that the show could go on without him because even the most innocuous criticism is taken as YOU ARE THE WORST PERSON ALIVE AND WANT TO KILL ALL OF THEIR ENJOYMENT OF THE SHOW or something.
