Actually, Joe Carey had 2 sons, and no daughters at all. Also, he appeared in an entire two episodes over seven years before he died. His death (while unnecessary) was not a big deal to most people because he was barely a character.

Janeway, on the other hand, was the central character. Funny how the first female captain to be featured in a series is also the only captain who gets killed off in the spinoff novels. Can't imagine why people are pissed off and not willing to keep reading.

You mean Sisko? He's totally in spin-off novels. He finished his gap year with the Prophets or whatever the hell, and has been moping around various not-very-well-written novels ever since.

And whatever you make of the Emissary story line, at least Sisko went out in his own show in his own story. Janeway was killed off in a TNG tie-in novel in which she was a B-Plot to Picard's story. Her death was written by a writer who doesn't appear to have respected the character at all, and she got eaten by a floor.

I never even watched Voy - TNG girl to the core - but I read her death in Before Dishonour and was utterly grossed out by the way a Trek captain was treated.

Actually he appeared in several episodes, but sure, nitpick the detail of a family while missing my point of the fact that there was one.

You mean the female captain who got promoted to admiral and after her death got replaced by... oh, a female captain? Gee, these books are really sticking it to the feminists!

I called it ridiculous. I'm not permitting you or forbidding you to do anything. I'm not telling you your opinion is more important than mine, I'm telling you my opinion.

But if you're really asking my opinion if I think that's ridiculous?

Then yes. The Voyager books are a group effort, with different authors, if you like reading about the characters from Voyager, you're missing out by making a snap decision based on (a) plot point(s) you don't like in one singular book.
