I REALLY WANT AEGON TO BE REAL TOO.

I didn't LIKE the plot twist per se, but I didn't hate it the way a lot of people seem to, mainly because (a) I don't think he will live past a few chapters into the next book and (b) I remain unconvinced he's the genuine article. He screams redshirt to me, basically.

I still don't understand the Dany hate though, even after the mind-dumbing dullness of the last book and her ~relationship angst~ (mostly because the WHOLE BOOK was like that, not just her chapters). She was conditioned by her psycho brother to believe they were the rightful heirs for her entire life and was hardcore hunted for being a Targ, suggesting some legitimacy to that claim. Plus she seems to actually care about being an effective ruler and struggles to be good at it/a good person.

I just don't get the Dany hate you guys

I don't particularly hate her, i.e. I don't think she's an absolutely awful person like Joffrey, Cersei, Littlefinger etc. But I do think she's arrogant, vain, not very intelligent, not very wise, too full of herself, and generally a terrible ruler. She may have the heart in the right place (which is more than can be said for many other characters in this series), she may WANT to br a good ruler, but she just sucks at it. Nor do I see any realistic way for her to become a good ruler. I don't want her to die a horrible death or anything like that. She can live happily ever after flying around on dragons and screwing sellswords for all I care. I just want her to stay the fuck away from Westeros because I can't imagine her doing anything good there. She'd only cause more chaos, pain, death and destruction, and the Westerosi are doing a pretty good job at that themselves. They don't need another person (with mad dragons, no less) to fuel their civil war.

ngl, I can't see her being a good ruler once she got there, even though I like her and think she'd be good at Getting Shit Done. Hence, my dream team three-headed-dragon lineup as outlined here (http://fandomsecrets.livejournal.com/735045.html?thread=465851717#t465851717).

I pass off alot of her flaws as the fact that she's still, what...fifteen? Maybe sixteen? And due to all the running for her life no one seems to have really bothered training her in how to, you know, not royally screw over the people you're trying to rule. However, I totally agree that she'd be a really crappy regent. But I never got the feeling that she'd end up being one. Putting a Targ back on the throne doesn't feel to me like something GRRM would do. I really think Dany and her dragons are going to have better, more ass-kicking things to do, and will leave the rulership to someone far better qualified (after all, she does try to listen to her advisors (even if she is, you know, only a young girl.))

I hate the Targs, but I much rather see Aegon on the throne than Daenerys. So, I hope he's real, too. It was an awesome and amusing twist. Then again, I'd rather see ANYONE on the throne than Daenerys.

I agree. I also hate the Targs, and I don't particularly want Aegon to rule either. But him showing up was just such a wonderful "in your face" for Daenerys' "rightful claim".

I think after ADwD that's fairly popular opinion. ;) Oh God, worst rulers ever, Daenerys and Littlefinger together. ;)

Does it even matter, really? We've already seen everyone and their mother lay claim to the throne- at this point, "rightful" has nothing to do with it.

I suppose it doesn't matter in terms of power and politics, nor does it matter to the people who base their "claim" on superior strength (like Renly did, or the Greyjoys). But it DOES matter to those people who argue that they are the rightful heir and that everyone else is an usurper. It DOES matter to Daenerys that Rhaegar's legitimate son and heir is alive, because if it's true it destroys her claim to be the rightful Targaryen heir. of course she may still choose to go like, "fuck this shit, I have dragons, my nephew can go die for all I care", but she'd at least have to give up her whole blabla of being the rightful heir.

I didn't like that twist at all, but not because "OMG SOMEONE COMING FOR DANY'S THRONE" or anything, but like....ANOTHER claim? FOR FUCK'S SAKE, THE BOOKS CAN BARELY CONTAIN ALL THE PEOPLE VYING FOR IT NOW!

I want Aegon to be real because I'd be annoyed by a surprise!Targaryen who then turns out to be a fake!Targaryen. That's just silly. Also, it would break poor Griff's heart, and I love Griff.

WORD. Dany's probably my least favourite character. My "three heads" choices are Arya, Sansa and Myrcella.

I don't want this Aegon to be a fake either! ...or Dany to be queen for that matter, even if I don't hate her. Even if her brushing off of Ned's defense of her when she was a kid makes me want to shake my finger at her.

I've never been the biggest Daenerys fan out there, but I don't think it really matters if Aegon has the real claim or not, because Dany's got the dragons. Quite a few characters point this out, too. The only reason she can't just smash everyone is that she can't control them. As soon as she can her claim to the throne is every bit as valid as those of her first forefathers in the Seven Kingdoms - i.e. Dragon Smash.

I don't get the Dany hate, though. She's naive, and sheltered, and sixteen, and GRRM unlike so many other shitty writers out there actually makes that matter. I do however find her pretty bland. But then I found Jon bland right up until ADwD, so maybe Dany will go through some interesting development, too.

Aside from the dragons though, Dany has one major advantage over the other throne contenders, and I'm glad GRRM touched on it in the last book: she can marry one of others and double up her strength. Except Myrcella, obviously, but I think it's heavily implied Dorne is going to throw behind one of the Targs anyway.

I think the problem is that Daenerys didn't use to be bland. I found Jon bland until ADwD, because he really just seemed to be a teenager in a crappy situation. Then he grew up. But Daenerys' storyline was interesting from the beginning, her character development was interesting .... and then it just went off in the wrong direction. From what I've heard a lot of people seriously liked Daenerys until she went dumb in ADwD, and that's way more disappointing than disliking a character from the start.

Also, how can that girl still be naive and sheltered after everything that happened to her? GoT and CoK showed a young girl who was forced to grow up extremely quickly and who actually matured quite a bit in a short time. Recently she has not just gone back to acting like a little girl, but to acting like a stupid little girl, which is even worse.

Also, the other throne contenders can theoretically marry the daughter/sister of potential allies, which is what Renly (and later the Lannisters) did to gain the Tyrells as allies. Okay, except Stannis who is already married ~~but that can change, right?~~ And that's actually an easier alliance than Daenerys marrying a man who would want to be king in his own right, not the king consort of a queen who rules herself.

ADWD made me dislike Dany greatly. She is really acting her age (15, right?).

She is no way fit or prepared to sit on the Iron Throne. I'm so fucking agitated for her not even thinking about how she will control and train her dragons. djkaldfjas;j sigh.

So yeah, I'm rooting for Aegon, sort of. I like Griff a lot, but Aegon seems like the typical "I'm young and hot headed!" Blah.

Hahaha, I have no real care for who ends up on the throne--I'm in it for the ride, personally--but Aegon just sort of makes me laugh, ever since my friend pointed out to me that the kid is basically a huge Mary Sue. Just imagine if this were a fanfic:

"My name is Aegon I have purple hair and blue eyes and I'm the actual heir to the throne in Westeros! Because everyone thought I was dead but it actually turns out it was a conspiracy and I spent my whole life living in secret and learning to be good at weapons and religion and reading and..."

And how is that NOT true for Daenerys?

"My name is Daenerys Stormborn (mind the cheesy name), last surviving member of House Targaryen and only rightful heir to the Iron Throne. I have silver-white hair and purple eyes and am considered the most beautiful woman in all the world. I had a tragic childhood because my parents were killed and my brother too and I was taken away into exile, and my other brother mistreated me, but I never stopped seeing the good in people ... oh, I'm also the only person in the world with dragons."
