Various reasons that I don't think are a great idea to air on a place like F!S, but the tl;dr version of it is that I've been told so since I was capable of cognitive reasoning. I've yet to "make anything" of myself, and I doubt I ever will. I figure sooner or later I probably will end up doing something dumb one night, but I'm trying to postpone it as long as I can.

Don't worry, OP. I was brought up being told similar things (I'm 23 and am still being told I've yet to "make anything" of myself, even though I'm mid way through a university degree). It hurts, but then I eventually came to a realization that I'm not living life to "make something" of myself or to impress other people. I'm living life for myself and to enjoy my time here on earth.

Late comment is late, but I just wanted to tell you, don't let your judgment of yourself depend entirely on others. No-one can step away from it entirely, but really, to only think of in terms as "deserving", it's not right. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity, at least. The fact that those people have treated you like that tells more about themselves than you. I hope you can come to accept yourself and become happier eventually...
