It makes me sad when people mocks Snape for being in love with her after so many years. That's happened to me and it's quite painful.

I think its possible his behavior could still be creepy, obsessive and entitled AND completely tragic rather than mockworthy.

Although I'm sure at some points you could laugh. At some points I'm sure he laughed -- he used dark sarcasm to cover his emotions all the time, why would this be any different. Like when he took the picture and part of the letter in Lily's handwriting...Jesus, you guys, just because he doesn't necessarily say what he's feeling all the time doesn't mean their isn't emotion there. THAT'S THE MISTAKE HERMIONE MAKES ABOUT RON AT FIRST. Rowling's characters are more well-rounded than some of the fans make them out to be. Of course the only way to fill it is fanfiction, but there is a lot of room because there's a lot to fill in.

Where does his behaviour come off as "entitled"? I am genuinely confused. Please give an example before you make things up about characters.

He's upset because he made a unbelievably stupid mistake that cost him his only true friend. He tries too apologize but he's too late; the damage has been done. He holds on to this regret for the rest of his life.

There's a difference between being jealous and being entitled, btw. If he had corned Lily and told her that it was he and not James that deserved her, then yes, that would be entitlement. But he does nothing of the sort.

Severus does not hate Lily for marrying James. He hates James, yes. But he mainly hates himself for ruining their friendship, and ruining what might have been his only shot at love.

he very clearly does think that james doesn't deserve her and that the only person who can truly protect lily is himself.

the fact that he never confronted her about it has more to do with his own inability to talk to lily or think about lily like she's an actual person (as opposed to either idealizing her or horribly putting her down) than it does with any particularly redeeming character traits.

Yes, I agree with the fact that he loathes James for being with her, but I hardly think that he feels like "he's the only person that can truly protect Lily". They break off contact after Snape calls her a Mudblood. He probably thinks he's no more fit than James to love her, for calling her such a horrible thing.

I'm just trying to have a civil debate. I'm not acting like an immature troll, so why would I bother going anonymous?

The person above me said something I disagreed with. I responded, asking why they thought that. They responded giving their reasons. And so on and so on. That's how a conversation works.

It's not that hard of a concept.
