I think he had a bit more of an excuse with the whole "being in prison and reliving the worst moments of his life except for some time spent as a dog" thing. He didn't really get a chance to grow up. Snape had the chance and still didn't.

Snape bullies children. Anything else he ever did, and anything he went through can't ever justify that. Even if bullying Harry is slightly understandable (though not justified), the way he treats Neville, Hermione, and the other Gryffindors is just so far beyond not okay.

This. So much this. I'm sick to death of Snape fans condemning Sirius for never growing up when he was in a hellhole prison paying for the death of the Potters, which SNAPE helped set up.
