4m3uqg9pijnreenpragreijk I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS

I, uh, might just have four extra user names for anyone who didn't get in early :P
PM me with your email if you want them-- first come first serve

PatronusElm105
SunOak82
PurpleOwl45
and ErisedIce12

You know, it's against their TOS to have more than one account.

Not that I mind, of course, but the beta sign ups were limited and it saddens me to think some people couldn't enter because others made extra accounts.

[identity profile] subarashiine.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
....b-b-but the reason I made extra accounts was 1. to find a user name that I really liked and 2. to give the ones I made extra to people that couldn't get them early ;__;

[identity profile] tambores.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
I understand that (and I got a freaking stupid username myself), I just don't think that justifies it, especially when they specifically say that they don't want people to create more than one account.

Who's to say you won't be able to change your display name later one?

[identity profile] tambores.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Also, if you hadn't made the accounts, someone else would (1 million limit registrations every day, I believe), so they'd be "given" to others already.

[identity profile] tee-sama.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think it was only one million registrations in total?

It sucks when people create more than one account, but at least some of those who do then give the accounts they won't use to someone else.

[identity profile] tambores.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
Now that you mention it, I'm really not sure.

Either way, I've heard of people who made as many as 11 accounts! I can understand not liking your name there, but wow...

[identity profile] subarashiine.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
There were tons of people that weren't able to be on the Pottermore website during those times the registration was open due to time zone differences, work schedules etc... so yeah, they would've been given to other people who were able to be on the website, but *shrugs* now other people get a chance too.

Also I really mean it when I say I didn't find the text that stated they specifically didn't want people making more than one account. Before I made multiple accounts, I searched through the Pottermore website for that rule and maybe I missed something, but maybe you can point it out?

http://insider.pottermore.com/2011/07/magical-quill-some-questions-answered.html

I’ve found The Magical Quill more than once. Am I allowed to create multiple early access Pottermore accounts?
No. You may only register for the early access period once. Please refer to the conditions of participation in The Magical Quill promotion Terms & Conditions.

I have seen people offering to register early access accounts for others. Is it safe to give my personal details to someone who is offering this service?
Absolutely not. You should never share personal details online unless you are certain how they will be used and protected. Also, please note that the transfer of Pottermore accounts is expressly prohibited in The Magical Quill promotion Terms & Conditions.

The T&C have since been taken down since the promotion is over, but they did state that you couldn't create more than one account.

IDGI. That was on the Pottermore blog, not in the FAQ...

The Pottermore blog = Pottermore. They're both official, so whatever is said on there goes for the Pottermore site. Not much to not get.

I completely agree with this. I've seen people say they registered over 10 times. The thing is, I'm not even sure if you can give them away. I'm sure they flag accounts that have name, email and IP changes due to people selling them on Ebay. So, even if you made extra accounts and gave them away for free it's still against the TOS and chances are the account is going to get suspended. I've heard of people's accounts becoming invalid because 2 IPs were logged onto it at the same time, which tells me they do monitor the accounts.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Wait...if they log IP addresses like that, would that effect people who have the same IP? I made my brother an account since he was asleep during that time, but I used his e-mail address so I wouldn't have to do this changing-the-email-thing. :( I was just trying to be nice......but what if my brother HAD been awake and was doing it too? Would we STILL end up getting suspended cause we share the same IP?

Not saying I am or we are suspended, but yeah.

Would we STILL end up getting suspended cause we share the same IP?

I seriously doubt it.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Good, cause that would just...kind of piss me off. The way that other thing was saying it made me think that could happen. :/

[identity profile] subarashiine.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah dude no, I mean if that were the case, then that would mean family members in the same household couldn't get accounts?? What if my mom was a HP fan too and she wanted her own account? I honestly think it's just a matter of different email addresses in the accounts. That's it :P

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. :3 Thanks for making me feel a bit better about it. ^^ I just sometimes get a bit irrationally weird and worried over some dumb stuff.

[identity profile] subarashiine.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
It makes sense, no worries :)
This Pottermore site is going to be very similar to something like Neopets (blah blah, can't have multiple accounts) but unless someone is very obviously abusing the site by having more than one user name, I seriously doubt that anyone is going to get in much trouble.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-09 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
No, it's probably more for drastically different IPs. A lot of MMOs do that. If they see that you've logged on from an entirely different country the account gets flagged for further investigation. Just like if it sees there's 2 people currently on the account (2 IPs logged on) it will flag the account.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-09 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
There could be a max number of registrants per IP, since it's a beta. 8-10 registers per IP. I would think it would be poor foresight on the programmers if they didn't implement something like that knowing how big HP fandom is that having accounts on a limited release would be bound to have people getting multiple accounts, some to sell on Ebay.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-08 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe they shouldn't have such a freaking stupid username policy, then. They should at least have let people click a button to get a new set of possible usernames if all the ones they were offered sucked.

[identity profile] tambores.livejournal.com 2011-08-08 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Because justifies going against their Terms of Service?

(Anonymous) 2011-08-08 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it might be different when the site launches. I noticed out of the user names I didn't choose someone else had a couple of them. It's possible there were only a certain amount of words and combinations of them just for the promotion.

Plus, that's why you have betas. To work out the bugs. Seeing how people weren't happy on day 1 with getting a name given to them, they switched it up and let you pick 1 of 4. It was probably the best they could do with the code in the amount of time they had.
