You know, it's against their TOS to have more than one account.

Not that I mind, of course, but the beta sign ups were limited and it saddens me to think some people couldn't enter because others made extra accounts.

....b-b-but the reason I made extra accounts was 1. to find a user name that I really liked and 2. to give the ones I made extra to people that couldn't get them early ;__;

I understand that (and I got a freaking stupid username myself), I just don't think that justifies it, especially when they specifically say that they don't want people to create more than one account.

Who's to say you won't be able to change your display name later one?

Also, if you hadn't made the accounts, someone else would (1 million limit registrations every day, I believe), so they'd be "given" to others already.

I think it was only one million registrations in total?

It sucks when people create more than one account, but at least some of those who do then give the accounts they won't use to someone else.

I completely agree with this. I've seen people say they registered over 10 times. The thing is, I'm not even sure if you can give them away. I'm sure they flag accounts that have name, email and IP changes due to people selling them on Ebay. So, even if you made extra accounts and gave them away for free it's still against the TOS and chances are the account is going to get suspended. I've heard of people's accounts becoming invalid because 2 IPs were logged onto it at the same time, which tells me they do monitor the accounts.

Maybe they shouldn't have such a freaking stupid username policy, then. They should at least have let people click a button to get a new set of possible usernames if all the ones they were offered sucked.

I think it might be different when the site launches. I noticed out of the user names I didn't choose someone else had a couple of them. It's possible there were only a certain amount of words and combinations of them just for the promotion.

Plus, that's why you have betas. To work out the bugs. Seeing how people weren't happy on day 1 with getting a name given to them, they switched it up and let you pick 1 of 4. It was probably the best they could do with the code in the amount of time they had.

I'm so excited too. I keep getting little excited thoughts about it, and thinking "Oh, I should log in and check" and then remember that it isn't yet ;_; I don't think I'd have lasted until October.

When it offered me usernames, I chose the one with the lowest number in (OMG! single digits!) just for that "I'm here early" buzz :)

I really hope it's going to be as exciting as I think. Extra information! Buying a wand! Being sorted! :D

I am so stupidly excited for Pottermore that it's kind of embarrassing. I really hope we get tons more info on all the bit characters and the history and a better understanding of how the houses work and everything! Squee!

I'm an HP fan and I've been one for years-- went to midnight book openings, etc.

But I seem to the only one who isn't flipping their shit over this Pottermore stuff. I still like the books, but I just don't care about this. I don't know, I genuinely don't understand the excitement.

I'm super happy everyone else is getting something to squee over. I wish I could join in the excitement, but I just can't. Don't know why.

...What is Pottermore?

It's pretty much shrouded in mystery, so no one really knows what it is. What keeps getting repeated is that it's going to be a new interactive way to read through the Harry Potter books. It's supposed to be free, but then they say there will be a shop were you can buy e-books from. The only place online you'll be able to.

There are little tidbits and hints about being able to experience certain scenes in the book. Such as getting sorted by the sorting hat, shopping for wizard supplies in Diagon Alley, and earning points towards the House Cup. JKR has also noted that she has put in little bits of trivia about the characters and world that have never been released before.

Give it another week or two and the beta testers will be posting crap about it everywhere. It doesn't open up to everyone else until October.

I wasn't too excited when I first heard about it about a month or so ago. I thought it was just going to be some bullshit scheme to get people to buy e-book versions and more HP merch. And then I heard more things about getting sorted and being a fly on the wall while the books are happening. This intrigued me. Even more when it was mentioned you could earn house points for your house. My brain thought maybe this was more like a MMO game. Now as I wait for my welcome email I'm starting to doubt it. I'm thinking it might not be what I hope it is and that would suck.
