I agree. While I was happy with the end result, I think they lost points for not taking advantage of this chance to really expand the other wizard fights that the book left out.

[identity profile] jump2narnia.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree with you! I hated that the last battle showed a lot of the aftermath, but none of the actual duels. And there was plenty of time to include it, too! It would've been so amazing. :(

[identity profile] lemon-m.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I. fucking. know. Molly vs. Bellatrix was so disappointing; they didn't show Ginny and Luna fighting and they didn't have Bellatrix taunt Molly about her children, so Molly's line was kinda left hanging there.

But yeah, Harry vs. Voldemort was pretty great.

[identity profile] roguebelle.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I've always been disappointed in the dueling in the movies, TBH. I will never stop being upset that they cut footage of Sirius v Bellatrix that they had filmed from OotP. And I so wanted Ginny & Luna & Hermione v Bellatrix, and Kingsley & Minerva & Slughorn v Voldemort going on simultaneously. And then Molly v Bella was sooooo disappointing and underdone. That duel was supposed to be pic. Floor crackling, heat warping the air, fucking Voldemort stopping to watch. What we got was rushed, undramatic, and frankly weird. :/

Yeah, I was really hoping that the DH movies would show us some of the stuff DH told us about, like the formation of PotterWatch. Ah well. Glad I went in spoiled for what was cut, tbh.

[identity profile] intoalkaseltzer.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
imho, wizard duels are basically the most uninteresting kind of fictional fighting

[identity profile] allthemoves.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
I so, so agree. Just the delivery of Molly's line was off for me. There was like, no real emotion in it. I also doubt Bellatrix would've stopped aiming curses at her for the 5 seconds it took her to say the line.

[identity profile] danaphilip.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still waiting for my Fenrir/Remus duel.

[identity profile] kasumi-sora.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
You are not alone.

[identity profile] la-petite-singe.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the final battle scene was kinda edited weirdly. They spent too much time on Harry and Voldemort alone, IMO, when they should have been in the middle of everything and then shown people on the sides. And I don't know WHAT that weird pushing-each-other's-faces thing was. Although I did like the way it just got legit physical and Voldemort was just furiously backhanding him; that felt very intense and real.

THIS. I agree so much :)

[identity profile] biodamper.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Yuppers. For an action-packed finale, it could've packed in a lot more action.

[identity profile] caffeine-buzz.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
What bugged me is that ostensibly we had two movies so they could fit in all the stuff that was in the books...and then the last movie skipped over lots of stuff that was in the books. (But gee, thank goodness they managed to keep all those super-duper exciting camping scenes in part one! I was totally worried they might skip them!)

[identity profile] inuyatta.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
This. All of this--that is exactly what irritated me about the DH movies.

[identity profile] hyper-amychao.livejournal.com 2011-08-10 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I had this exact same thought run through my head after seeing DH2. It left me going "...what"

(Anonymous) 2011-08-09 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
The thing that got me with Molly vs. Bellatrix is that Molly was kind of ... wobbly at the beginning. She kind of stumbled into the fight and looked like she was barely holding her own, before she finally got into it and took Bellatrix down. All of which happened very quickly, which just made it all the more awkward. Molly is a fierce force of nature in the book, she goes after Bellatrix with claws-out, guns-blazing, she totally lets go and unleashes hell upon her. It's her Crowning Moment Of Awesome, and the film made it look more like an accident and luck than skill. :(

[identity profile] philstar22.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally the movie version made more sense to me. The book scene was awesome, but it also made no sense in terms of either character. Bellatrix is awesome and powerful. She is Voldemort's second in command. To see her taken out in an actual full on duel by a woman who we've never seen have any sort of fighting ability just didn't make any sense. I loved the scene the first time I read it, because it does read as awesome, but reading it a second time made me realize that it actually didn't make sense and didn't work.

FUCKIN' WORD, DUDE

WHY ARE WE SEEING PEOPLE LIKE PROFESSOR SPROUT AND PROFESSOR TRELAWNEY JUST SITTING AROUND IN THE GEAT HALL IN THAT BETWEEN-THE-BATTLES PERIOD WHEN HARRY SAW ALL THE CORPSES? WHY INSTEAD DID WE NOT SEE THEM THROWING CRYSTAL BALLS AND FUCKING MANDRAKES AND VENOMOUS/EAT-YOUR-FACE-TYPE PLANTS AT THE DEATH EATERS? That speech they gave to Neville was fucking LAME (but I guess I should be happy they didn't take his kill-the-snake moment away and give it to Hermione, which the movie TOTALLY led me to believe they were gonna do for awhile there) Ginny and Luna didn't fight no bitches and Molly's moment was ridiculously understated, FRED DYING WAS COMPLETELY EXCISED. what the hellllllll

this movie got the epic battle when Part 1 got the camping tour, and somehow the action scenes in the first one were waaaaaaay more compelling. At least McGonagall and the Grey Lady were both epic as FUCK but THAT DOES NOT MAKE ALL THE REST OKAY (apparently I am still not quite over this)

[identity profile] hit-monkey.livejournal.com 2011-08-09 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with everything here, there was so much awesome in the final battle and almost none of it made to the screen.

I haven't seen the film, but I'm not surprised to hear this. My friend saw it and she said more or less the same. She was pretty damn disappointed with how it ended.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-09 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
God, how anti-climatic was Molly? I expected to see the pain on her face over her son, and then her race across the fucking room and RAGE. But it was like, "BTW, stay away from my daughter, kay? ZAP."

(Anonymous) 2011-08-09 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed the movies up until this one for the same reasons. I hate to say it, but I would support a Harry Potter movie series reboot in 10-15 years just so they can fix this abomination.
