I'd rather buy it for the art and the fact that I love comics that for the character's race.

+1 the race of the main character is a stupid reason to buy comics. Buy it for the story or the art or the personality of the main character or even because it's a good starting point for the comic where you don't have to wade through years of backstory to understand what's going on.

Buying it just because the main character's mixed race? how shallow do you have to be for this to hold your attention past the first volume if that's the only thing that interests you about the comic?

I already pretty much figured what response people would give to "how shallow" for buying it based on race. I just hope they buy it, and keep buying it. Maybe even branch out into other stuff. Comics needs the new readers. Not just the ones that will buy the first issue for the novelty.

or, they buy the first volume out of some misplaced sense of solidarity and then remember that they don't really like comics (but they did their good deed for social justice!) and don't keep buying it.

At the end of the year, Marvel's sales figures clearly say that the new character is a flop because he didn't manage to hook the readership past the first volume. thus validating every idiot who said that a black Spidey won't work.

This comment says far more about you than it does about anyone who would buy the book "just because" the main character isn't white.
