I typically don't buy/read anything with Spidey unless he's hanging out with other capes for whatever reason (I love the inter-cape banter between Peter and like everyone else THE MOST) but am buying the hell out of this run when it starts. Maybe I won't even wind up liking it very much, but I'd like to give it whatever support I can.

In Ultimate Spider-man peter Parker died and is getting replaced by Miles Morales ^there, he's half black, half Hispanic. I'm thinking of getting it to.

Ultimate Spidey was recently killed by Osborn and the boy who's taking his place until around when the next movie comes out is half-black and half-Latino. A lot of people are in a fuss because, well.. he's mixed-race, when it shouldn't actually matter as long as the story is good.

I mean, Glenn Beck went as far as to be all, 'THIS IS HAPPENING BECAUSE OF OBAMA!!!!11`2' and it would be funny if it wasn's so sad that people are having a hard time accepting this kid when the first issue isn't even out yet.

I'm more of a DC person, but I'm going to be buying this as well. It's cool that they are doing a PoC Spiderman, and I think that his character design is super adorable!

I'm still kind of bitter that they killed off one of only characters that even comes close to being universally liked in the Ultimate verse, but I'm still pretty interested in Miles Morales as Spider-Man.

The issue I have is that like, Spider-Man JUST died. It's a tad shitty for somebody to immediately jump into his costume, because there's a chance either people are gonna think "Wow, what a dickhead, show some fucking respect for the dead" or Aunt May is gonna see him and get her hopes up that her nephew is alive from, like magic space rays, (it's marvel, it could happen).

I usually only buy select comics when they're collected as trade paperbacks, since keeping up with them every week or whatever puts more stress on my wallet than I'm willing to go through for an endless series of cliffhangers and full-page ads for Gatorade.

But this? This I'll be buying as soon as it hits the stands. I'm so excited.

Comic fandom always fills me with such pride when I see about 2000 comments saying "THEY JUST KILLED OFF PETER PARKER SO THEY COULD HAVE A BLACK SPIDER-MAN"

Oh wait, that's not pride I feel. It's shame.

I read the Yahoo comments page to an article about this and it made me want to kill every living person. I even filtered it by Most Popular which usually makes the top fifty or so sane and thoughtful, but no, in this case the most popular comments were REVERSE RACISM and SPIDER MAN IS DEAD TO ME and ethnic slurs about illegal immigrants.

These comments make me feel much better. I don't read Spider Men either but now I just might start.

I'm gonna say the opposite of almost everybody. Ultimate Spiderman was the only good book going, and I'm kinda wishing it ended with Peter's death. I'll give it a chance, but I'm not excited for this so much as filled with dread that it will be:

1. PoC clone of Peter ultimately.

2. Trying to hard to be different and becoming unlikable

3. Actually really good but dropped to bring peter back (ultimates was supposed to have all deaths actually stick when it started, but how many times have they gone back on that already?)

Just from a marketing standpoint it seems crappy to pull a New Coke with him. I think it would have been better to do a story where Peter Parker was always Hispanic/Black and not introduce replacement Spiderman. You'd get a better idea of how many people are actually racist and how many are just upset that the character they loved was taken away.
