Somewhat flawed argument by bun. War Machine, Steel, Thunderstrike, Azreal Bats, Artemis WW, Red Hulk, USAgent wer never really a long-term replacements so much as a supplements to a story, Green Lanterns are by nature a position more then individuals, so replacements would actually be expected, and Fury was a new imagining rather then a substitution, and Cassandra Cain was under bat legacy in a series where sidekicks had been replaced more then once before. Mon-El barely qualifies, but only symbolically, considering he's never done more then wear the crest and never even took the title.

Mr. Terrific and Miguel are actually a fair examples though, Miguel especially. I have no clue who the blond guy in panel 4 is.

I get what he's trying to do and it makes sense, I'm just too much of an anal comics geek to let it go.

The blond guy in panel 4 is Connor Hawke (Green Arrow II). He is very much awesome (also, he's the first Green Arrow's son, so it's a very different situation).

I'll add that for most legacy characters mentioned there (real replacements, rather than Green Lanter, they'r a CORPS. of course there's more than one!) they don't come out of the blue, they have some relation to the original character. For Cassandra Cain she even lives with the original Batgirl for a while (the Batgirls pretty much all trained their replacements, actually). Azrael was a plot device and didn't last very long, Dickbats was a better example of legacy replacement (of a different racial origin, even, since we're focusing on that). As for things going badly with iconic characters replacements, can we mention Jason Todd? So not all replacements are a success story either.

I don't know much about comics (still stuck in the Batfam) but from what I know, maybe the most comparable situation would have been Jaime Reyes as Blue Beetle? Which is a success story AFAIK so there's always hope :)

I don't know if it's entirely true but I heard Jaime Reyes is a 'success' because the previous Beetles were from Charlton Comics which DC bought. They use Jaime in more media because he's THEIRS. Where Ted was adopted.

I like Jaime more than Ted. Still, his book didn't sell that well, relatively. There's soooo many Nostalgianerds still flipping out of the loss of "Boostle."

He's an example of DC doing right by the current incarnation of a character where a lot of their legacy characters they choose to revert to the original for other portrayals in media. (see BatGirl, most Robins, even Green Lantern, to an extent.)

But Cassandra Cain did come out of the blue, THEN she lived with Barbara for awhile, after she was Batgirl. And each of those Green Lanterns was introduced as a replacement for Hal Jordan, especially Kyle, the Corps is just a way of keeping them around.

And it's not about replacements being a success so much as it is about this happening all the time in comics.

Oh yeah, forgot about him. Don't read green arrow that much.

Jamie is a great example actually.
