I haven't seen the movie but I have been to Rio twice. I don't know exactly how high your expectations are, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be let down. I loved it there.

Rio is beautiful. There are definitely some ugly spots, but I think it's great for a visit.

I'll be honest with you OP, if I had any choice in the matter, I wouldn't touch Brazil with a ten-foot pole. :P

For what it's worth the parts of Rio that are over hyped are pleasant enough... just know that there is also very unpleasant stuff that you definitely won't have to look too hard to find.

omg I absolutely agree. I think it's because movies didn't just give me entertainment but kind of dispersed my ignorance about what a place was in my mind. And then put a positive spin on it that I now associate the place with.

The last time I was in Rio I was 11 years old, but I think this movie captured it perfectly.

Go see it, anon! Travelling to places is the best thing you can do. Actually, let me give you this quote:

This movie was only one big commercial for the city and their tourist industry and did a lot of stereotyping.
To be fair, Rio is very nice to travel to! :)

(Sorry, but I had to chuckle at your "travel to Europe" comment. You do realise Europe is not a country? Well, except you planned to go to EVERY European country there is. Then I'd keep my mouth shut).
