As a telemarketer (for my university) I appreciate you doing this. ^_^ It's just my student job, but people yell at me all kinds of times for just doing my job.

So yeah, yay. :)

I hear you;, it's tough. If it makes it better for you, I do it for my university and only call/update alumni and ask them to help donate for the school? I don't like doing it, but it's what I have to do because it's the only job I can really do at this point with my university (there was one other job at our sports stadium, but it was honestly the most degrading thing I've done, so I'm not going back to that.)

Is it really surprising to you that people yell at you? LOL
My 90-year-old grandma was talked into ordering a shitload of stupid magazines. It cost her 200 €.

It's not THAT surprising, but the fact is is that it's from their university. It's not some random thing to buy cutlery or whatever, it's where they went to school for four years, asking to help donate so we don't shut down more programs and people can get scholarships because they can't afford to go to school. I'm not surprised, but it's emotionally jarring. The worst day was when one guy started to go on a homophobic rant at me; that was rough. But yeah, people get all up in my case about everything when I'm just calling from a place they went to for 4+ years.

It is just a job, though. I'm a student, and the job market near where I live is tough. This is the first steady job I was been able to get in a year and a half, and I NEED this job to help pay for my university, for textbooks, etc. Telemarketers ARE people too, who need the job they've got to pay the rent. They're not evil, they're just doing what they have to do to make money they need.
