Uhhh well if a dear friend started hating me for no reason I'd be like "well uhhh ok, can I do something to make you not hate me? No? I guess you hate me then." I care for my friends, care deeply, sure. I LIKE my parents. They're cool people. But if people decide to hate me then well uh. I guess they hate me. I mean wtf am I supposed to do, is angsting about it going to help me?

And I don't really like being called things simply because I feel horrible for you for the fact that your parents don't give a damn about you. I think it's horrible and sad and would probably hug you if I could.

I'm honestly not trying to. If it works for him, that's good. But I still think that it's sad that his parents don't give a damn about him.

I'd say that proverb about meat and poison, but the point remains that not all families work on that kind of bond.

I come from a loving family myself, but we're VERY different individuals who are pretty much only together because we're family. We wouldn't even bother with each other if we weren't.

I personally don't see anything wrong if he has friends around him and can take care of himself, when it's obvious the parents don't even need to, you know? Just saying. It sounds like you're being condescending, simply because he isn't following the same values you do.

That's not what it is at all.

I can see that this all works for him, but I also think it's because the fact his parents give so little a damn about him is part of the reason and that sucks.

And if that makes me condescending, so fucking be it.

Why would they when they don't have to? Parents will only intrude and involve themselves if they feel that their child has problems that they -see- as problems. He's not even a bad kid. The parents have nothing to even complain about, so...

Parents should be involved with their children because they care.

It's true that their sometimes not and there are often valid reasons for that. I'm not saying that parents who aren't there for their children because they love them are monsters, I'm saying that they're making a mistake (some circumstances aside).

I'm... really left speechless by your naivete. Parents are still individuals. So they don't fall into the stereotype of the always involved, always caring parents. So what? People have their own lives and the period of time they needed to -really- care for their child is long over. I'd feel sorry if they WERE still butting into everything he was doing and making him feel useless about the fact that he couldn't do anything on his own.

This is amazing. Just wow. I'm sorry, I've just never seen someone debate this so vehemently before. And this is genuine surprise, I'm not saying this to be offensive. ^^; Mind if I ask why you feel that this should be the only way things should be?

If it's not hurting either of the parties in any way, then I don't see how that's a "mistake" on their part.
