Notes:

This is not your forum to identify and call out specific people just to call them assholes. Call out general actions you find reprehensible, mod ability/inability, that kind of stuff, but once you get into what basically amounts to 'this person is a stupid bitch and here are some icons/an lj layout/add. info to identify them with' - no.

Wow, this was hard to read. That said, you've reminded me of yet another series I've yet to read. I've been a Tamora Pierce fan for a long time, but I just never got around to this set of books for some reason or another.

They're very different from her Tortall books. They're geared toward a slightly younger audience, and I didn't care for them as much, but they're definitely worth reading.

I'll give them a read once I get the chance (ha, I have so much to read outside of class: the last Harry Potter books, the Game of Thrones series, random books I find while I'm at work, etc.). My mom adores this series, so it shouldn't be hard to get my hands on the books; I just have to make the time to read them.

How are they geared toward a younger audience, if you don't mind my asking? Is it in terms of the themes laced throughout the books? Or is perhaps the writing simpler?

The writing is a bit more simplistic and the plot IMO a bit less complicated. There's also things that they don't deal with that were in the Tortall books. Sex was pretty much left alone, as I recall (it may have been touched on in Will of the Empress, which I haven't read, but it wasn't in the original two quartets). Also, the age of the characters remained younger, whereas the Tortall books followed characters from young adulthood through adulthood. The Circle books stayed in the "tween" range, as I recall.
