Amen, Anon.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely don't think Cas is perfect. He can be passive-aggressive, judgemental, incredibly hardheaded, wilfully obtuse, and even cowardly on occasion, and he made some godawful mistakes (no pun intended) in Season 6, without question. He should have shown a little more trust in the boys and spent a lot more time fact-checking and contemplating alternatives and consequences. He killed several people he definitely shouldn't have.

Also, it made me want to headdesk when he begged God for a sign, as if his falling-out with his friends and all the things that kept going wrong weren't enough.

That said, Dean particulary was fairly mean to him for no particular reason, right from his first appearance. He took him for granted and never even asked Cas for his side of the story or heard him out.

Bear in mind that this is the angel who flat-out told Dean (correctly!) that trying to kill Lucifer with the Colt was insane, but backed him anyway and then hauled his ass out of the fire when the plan failed spectacularly. Couldn't Dean at least do him the courtesy of asking for his rationale? Tried to talk him out of a flawed plan while still expressing support for Cas and belief in him generally? But no, he declined to 'logic' him and demanded instead that he, essentially, shut up and follow orders. Yeah, that was gonna go over well.

Sam gets more of a pass in my book, being that he was lacking a soul most of the season and all. But I was quite disgusted that the first thing he did after he got it back was bear-hug Dean and Bobby, but Cas? Too 'awkward.' What the Hell, Sam?

I literally scoured S6 for the signs of affection or camaraderie that were rampant in Season 5, for a fanvid I'm working on. There was just nothing. The boys barely even smiled at the guy. So yeah, I'm with Anon. Sam and Dean behaved badly and they should man up and admit it (which is not to say that Cas shouldn't admit to his failings as well and try to make amends, if he's ever sane enough again.) :/

Heh. Interesting point to take issue with, out of everything I just said. But honestly, there were moments when toddlers didn't seem too far off the mark. :p

I want to marry this entire comment and have little comment babies. This is exactly what I was trying to say. I just totally failed at explaining myself.

I'm tired of people saying that the only reason we think he's not treated fairly is because he's a perfect wittle puppy who needs a hug. Woobie!Cas is my least favorite flavor. I just think that they, Dean especially, has treated him like a weapon out of their trunk from the start. He made mistakes but they all have. Now that they're all Dynamic Duo again it's like everyone's shit stinks but theirs. It's annoying.

I'm not surprised. I've had this issue since after The End in season five. Dean did try to help, well... not sure how browbeating is supposed to help, but either way it was too little too late.

I think maybe you and I are having trouble seeing through our own biases to meet a common ground. Maybe it's best that we just agree to disagree.

He really, really was. I mean he's always been cranky and just generally bitchy towards Cas, especially when he's frustrated, because Dean clearly wasn't gifted with the ability to not take his crabbiness out on his friends, but... It was really extreme this season. If I were Cas, I wouldn't have asked for his help either. =/

Also sharing the WTFery at Sam not hugging Cas. I think it's forgivable only because Sam is NOT the touchy feely type at all when it comes down to it.

..."Willfully obtuse" is totally the best description of Cas ever. He totally plays that shit up so hard when it suits him and I love him for it.
