What annoys me about the way they're treating him now (only up to a quarter way through series six) is the fact that they claim to be his friend... and then basically use him and dismiss everything that is important to him as if it were nothing.

I mean, the guy owes them nothing. They should be the ones helping him for what he's done for them, not the other way round.

But overall, I just think they need to treat him better.

Castiel always seems to look like a sad puppy in secrets, and really, they're all dicks to each other on some level; I get all offended on all of their behalves at various points throughout the series. Which is incidently why I stopped watching it - because I couldn't deal with the constant emo bitchiness.

tbh I think they both made mistakes. Of course, Castiel has a slightly better excuse, not being accustomed to human interaction. But, come on! The brothers weren't exactly raised with the best models for social interaction either.

It bothers me that fandom is so divisive on this.

if castiel was my angel, he'd defs be treated better because the most dangerous thing he'd have to deal with is choosing between a sandwich or a piece of fruit for lunch at the uni cafeteria.

it would also be pretty cool showing him new things, like tv shows, movies, books, hobbies, etc. my friends are never interested in my shitty movie collection, but i'm sure castiel would appreciate the effort. :D

it's weird how the fangirls who are upset about Cas being mistreated are usually the same ones who are pissed off that he went darkside.

like, I'm not a crazy Cas stan, but I always thought it was unfortunate how much the bros neglected him and it made total sense to me that he'd eventually go sour because of it. I loved the end of S6 for that, honestly.

The reason why I'm pissed about him going darkside isn't because it's bad for Sam and Dean, because it really does make sense and I'm rooting for him, but I just know the writer's will botch it up somehow. So my beef is with my lack of faith in the writer's, not the motivation behind him going darkside (which, did he even really go darkside? I'd think he'd be more of a Big Good than a Big Bad...)

Have to agree with commenter above in that I'm not really pissed about Cas becoming God because of the Winchesters.
If anything a part of me feel a bit vindictive.
Like of course he's gonna go dark side because you clowns weren't there for him!!!
Now that he doesn't feel helpless anymore, of course he's going to want to keep the powers!!

But I am genuinely gonna miss S.5 Castiel. :'(

So he lied, used and manipulated the brothers because he felt mistreated? You mean Dean and Sam should ask for forgiveness and hug him and ignore the fact that he0's using souls to be powerful? Castiel is not a kicked puppy, he's not stupid, he's smart and knew how to manipulate both Dean and Sam to get what he wanted. Yeah, Dean and Sam never asked him what was wrong but how can you expect Dean to worry about Castiel when his own life is a mess and his brother didn't have his soul and people wanted him dead and couldn't Castiel ask for help? he did have a mouth.

And Castiel kinda got Dean into this mess so I don't know why the Winchesters should be all Castiel loving.

If you really want to be honest, they're all very manipulative towards each other. It's usually either their way or the highway. That being said, I'd say Castiel more than made up for the fact that he manipulated them by everything he's sacrificed on their behalf. He got power from those souls because it was all he could do. Raphael would've wiped his ass with him because the simple fact is that Cas was very outclassed and it was either get a power trip or die and risk the apocalypse all over again. Sure, he could've gone to Dean, but he actually cared enough to not bring that kind of burden to someone who had been through so much.

Agreed. I'm a hardcore Dean/Cas shipper, but the rose-colored glass people have about Cas always surprises me. He's a grown man/angel, irritable, hardheaded, and stubborn. I'd also argue that he "used" Sam and Dean at least as much as they used him.

lol, the entirety of season six is Castiel's fault, all because he refused to accept responsibility for his actions. Responsibility for bringing Sam back wrong, for his crusade in torturing monsters bringing Eve back, for dragging his human friends into an angelic war they couldn't fight in, and all the domino effect deaths and hurt those things caused--and then he brushed all of it right off into the lap of Dean at the end of the season yet again (just like he did in Season 5 after being a core contributor in making sure Lucifer got released back in S4) because only having an entire army of angels on his side amid a handful of people disagreeing apparently wasn't enough.

So yeah, I'd say he definitely got Dean and Sam both into this mess. He's not brain damaged nor a child and I hope he finally sacks up for once next season and stops pushing his choices, issues and mistakes off onto Dean.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely don't think Cas is perfect. He can be passive-aggressive, judgemental, incredibly hardheaded, wilfully obtuse, and even cowardly on occasion, and he made some godawful mistakes (no pun intended) in Season 6, without question. He should have shown a little more trust in the boys and spent a lot more time fact-checking and contemplating alternatives and consequences. He killed several people he definitely shouldn't have.

Also, it made me want to headdesk when he begged God for a sign, as if his falling-out with his friends and all the things that kept going wrong weren't enough.

That said, Dean particulary was fairly mean to him for no particular reason, right from his first appearance. He took him for granted and never even asked Cas for his side of the story or heard him out.

Bear in mind that this is the angel who flat-out told Dean (correctly!) that trying to kill Lucifer with the Colt was insane, but backed him anyway and then hauled his ass out of the fire when the plan failed spectacularly. Couldn't Dean at least do him the courtesy of asking for his rationale? Tried to talk him out of a flawed plan while still expressing support for Cas and belief in him generally? But no, he declined to 'logic' him and demanded instead that he, essentially, shut up and follow orders. Yeah, that was gonna go over well.

Sam gets more of a pass in my book, being that he was lacking a soul most of the season and all. But I was quite disgusted that the first thing he did after he got it back was bear-hug Dean and Bobby, but Cas? Too 'awkward.' What the Hell, Sam?

I literally scoured S6 for the signs of affection or camaraderie that were rampant in Season 5, for a fanvid I'm working on. There was just nothing. The boys barely even smiled at the guy. So yeah, I'm with Anon. Sam and Dean behaved badly and they should man up and admit it (which is not to say that Cas shouldn't admit to his failings as well and try to make amends, if he's ever sane enough again.) :/

I want to marry this entire comment and have little comment babies. This is exactly what I was trying to say. I just totally failed at explaining myself.

I'm tired of people saying that the only reason we think he's not treated fairly is because he's a perfect wittle puppy who needs a hug. Woobie!Cas is my least favorite flavor. I just think that they, Dean especially, has treated him like a weapon out of their trunk from the start. He made mistakes but they all have. Now that they're all Dynamic Duo again it's like everyone's shit stinks but theirs. It's annoying.

What sets my teeth on edge is that I'm pretty sure the writers will go into the next season completely ignoring all this. I bet Cas' motives won't ever be brought up in the whirlwind of blames the boys will pile on him. He will be the evil son of a bitch who swallowed all the souls because he was power hungry and a villain at the core.

It almost cracked me up when Dean said in the finale, "I'd have died for you. Almost did a few times." Yelled at my TV "When? When, you lying sonovabitch?"

I'm a Dean fan BTW.
