[Suburban Knights / TGWTG]

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
actually they both sucked, but try telling TGWTG fans that

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I have yet to make it through either one in their entirety. They're kind of boring IMO

[identity profile] sandvich.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Everything on TGWTG sucks. If they're already fans of that, it's not like they're going to be bothered by how terrible, inflated and pandering the films are.

[identity profile] heretherebefic.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I love how people get annoyed with us for being fans of something that we are fans of. (Replace TGWTG with anything anyone has ever liked, lather, rinse, repeat.)

I hate cheese, but I don't hate people who like it.

[identity profile] vethica.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Someone else hates cheese? :O

[identity profile] heretherebefic.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I could say the exact same thing to your comment. :D

Some fans/fandoms feel like they're more annoying than others.
People who like cheese will probably not write torture porn fanfiction about cheese and force you to read it and won't draw cheese/cracker slash and then send it to the cheese dairy.

I have no clue about the TGWTG fandom, because I'm not in it and only occasionally watch videos on that side, but there is no denial that certain fandoms are just more obnoxious than others.

PS: I actually hate people for liking fish. My family is fish-crazy and whenever they cook fish the entire house stinks for hours! :P

I didn't care much for Suburban Knights either. It was a lot more...I don't know, muddled, I guess. I felt kind of bad because I didn't find NC's Team A nearly as engaging as Spoony's Team B (the playground scene is hilarious, especially with Dreaded Pirate Todd), and the story really didn't really get engaging until Part...5ish.

It was an entertaining thing and I see it as nothing more than a bunch of internet reviewers just having a good time, but if I were to compare, Kickassia is the better one. *shrugs*

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, aside from the set up in part one, you don't really need to watch it until part 5, really...

Oh, God, Todd was hilarious! "I just review music; I don't even like these people!" I also liked him wondering if he was fighting Joe, which was a nice reference to the Man in Black/Inigo Montoya fight in the movie. (-:

THIS.

According to commentary, a lot of people enjoyed Team B more. So did I TBH, and Team A had Linkara! D:

But Team B had some incredible lines. And Film Brain and Luke "fighting" over Mr Critic.

I really think it's unfair to try and compare the two. Kickassia was a Mel Brooks-style silly comedy where the emphasis was more on joke, joke, joke, than actually crafting a real story. The pacing and story structure didn't matter as much because the emphasis was on the comedy.

Suburban Knights, on the other hand, was an attempt to mix comedy, drama, and action into a coherent storyline, a serious departure from anything Doug's ever tried before.

As to whether it was good...well, it was somewhat hit or miss. It had its good parts (Orlando's surprisingly creepy performance, some really good jokes, Suede's unexpected return) and its bad parts (dragging filler scenes, incredibly fake-looking fight scenes, the Wrath of Khan shout out that JUST. WOULDN'T. END,) but on the whole it was an interesting experiment and it really shows how Doug is growing as a writer/director/actor. I highly anticipate seeing what future crossovers are going to look like.

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I totally agree about the STII stuff. Ok, fine, do a reference, but I wish they'd've made it a little more original. Though I admit that I sometimes take things too seriously, so part of my annoyance with the scene is that I wish they would have treated the death of a major character a little more seriously. Not totally--I liked the bit about Todd doing the cremation, and Chick saluting by removing her wig--but... it was a little too silly, given the subject matter. Again, though, I totally acknowledge that that's my issue... [shrug]

Of course, I also feel that way about something in Kickassia: I wish Spoony hadn't gone quite so overboard... He has a few more subtle moments (like the close-up of him as Critic says, "Sometimes, we all need to go a little mad"), but I actually skip some of his stuff, despite the fact that he's normally my fave TGWTGer... Good God, Spoony, leave some scenery for the rest of the group!

Orlando's surprisingly creepy performance

He was amazing, man. Holy crap, that opening scene...
"Do you want it taken away... Bill?"
O_O

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
The death of Ma-Ti bugged me for two reasons: his involvement in the finale was ridiculously easy to guess based on how much they emphasized Aeon's ring (I totally thought it was going to be Spoony's Star Sapphire ring, now THAT would've been a twist) and his death serves no purpose other than to lead into the painfully long Wrath of Khan bit. Bhargav proved to be a surprisingly good actor during the death scene, though. It's harder to sound meaningful while you're dying than most people think.

I personally feel it's time for Spoony to be given a break from having big roles in the specials and let some of the newer reviewers have something to do. (Ha ha, yeah right, Spoony's insane fans would go apocalyptic)

Orlando was the surprise star of the movie, no question. The fact that he can act, fight, and look cool in a leather trenchcoat proves that he's one of the most versatile people to ever appear on the site. I definitely see a future for him beyond TGWTG.

Kickassia made me laugh. A lot. Suburban Knights only made me laugh a few times, notably the playground battle. It was a good effort, but mostly boring. The best thing it had going for it was CS in his Indy costume. Rawr, as they say.

[identity profile] mythc-writer.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I admit a part of me was disappointed. I was expecting more of the characters interaction, not the characters playing other characters interaction. But the costumes were great and the banter was superb. I still love Kickassia, but I can't say one is better than the other. They both have their positives and faults, and I think comparing one to be better is like comparing apples and oranges.

[identity profile] hako-neko.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
There were really good and bad parts of both-- but Kickassia held its own with a better plot. Suburban Knights felt really cluttered and could have used less people in all honesty.

[identity profile] heretherebefic.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I liked/disliked certain aspects of each one more than the other. Kickassia was simpler; SK was more interesting. Kickassia had the added coolness of knowing that they actually went and asked this guy if they could pretend to invade his country; SK had them running around in awesome costumes in public. Etc.

I liked them both. :)

[identity profile] masked-creator.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
I liked MarzGurl and the Cinema Snob's performances. Other than that I wasn't interested enough in it to finish it. I felt Kickassia had better pacing and liked it more.

[identity profile] yukinoomoni.livejournal.com 2011-08-22 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Marzgurl as Mononoke was AMAZING.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-20 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Kickassia better, if only because it didn't feature NCritic's ballsack clad in white man-panties. I still don't know if this was supposed to be fanservice or nightmare fuel.

[identity profile] otakugal15.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Kickassia. But to be honest? I haven't seen past episode 2 of SK. :/ It was mostly because of my dwindling interest in all things TGWTG related and the other was the crazy hype, especially from certain fans, that just made me go all :|

Sorry, I just couldn't get as excited for it after it came out. *shrug*

I still watch a video or two every now and then though. And I might finish SK one day when I get really bored. I did like the costumes though. I got a laugh out of those.

[identity profile] angary.livejournal.com 2011-08-20 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
While I'm not in agreement with you, I've seen a bunch of people saying they prefer Kickassia. When you have any opinion on fandom, chances are 99.9999% of the time, you will not be alone in thinking it.

[identity profile] sairei.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Both Kickassia and Suburban Knights are terribly boring. I tried to get into them and like them, but I couldn't.
