I hate the woobification of Slytherin in fandom, but IA. The book version was much better when they all volunteered to leave. I shouldn't be surprised that Kloves is a lazy writer, tho.

Didn't some of them leave to round up reinforcements in Hogsmeade, and then return with them? You know, the tactically advantageous thing to do. (At least, this happened if my memory serves, and it may well not)

Man, I don't even see myself as a Slytherin but that's what I totally would have done. Not only did that help their numbers, but it also allowed them some time to really assess the threat and possibly come up with a better plan of attack.

That is what happened but it wasn't worded clearly. They came back with Slughorn and Charlie Weasley and some other people, IIRC, but it wasn't specifically pointed out that it was them.

Self-preservation is one of the Slytherin traits. But it's not important though, because saving your own life apparently doesn't count as saving a life? Somehow?

Thisssss. Slytherins are the tacticians of Hogwarts. Yes, Ravenclaws have the intelligence, but Slytherins are suppose to be the ones who have cunning. We're not all sodding cowards...

JKR spouted some bollocks about that being what happened in an interview after the fact, but she most certainly never wrote it into the books.

The reinforcements who arrive later are described as Slughorn and Charlie leading shopkeepers from Hogsmeade and parents of students who had stayed (ie not Slytherin students).

Later, VDM speaks of the Slytherins having joined him.

The best one can do is argue that there's no definitive proof that no Slytherin came back - maybe VDM was exaggerating and some of them joined the other side without being mentioned. But that's entirely up to one's own imagination. There is absolutely no textual evidence whatsoever of the return of a single Slytherin beyond Slughorn.

It might be implausible and unfair, but canonically house unity never happened and Slytherin weren't ever shown to take up arms against VDM.

Late reply is late, but according to JKR, yes, but it was never really apparent in the book. In the book, it seemed like Charlie Weasley was the one who gathered all those people in Hogsmeade.
