Didn't they say in the first book that almost every bad wizard ever came from Slytherin

As someone who stayed awake during statistics I'll be the first to agree that correlation does not imply causation but maybe after the hundredth Slytherin alumni goes on a killing spree you'd think they would conduct an investigation or something

Anyway yeah she could have just said 'Anyone who tries to lay a finger on Harry Potter will be escorted to the Dungeons' but I guess she was caught up in the moment

Hagrid said that every single dark wizard ever came from Slytherin, conveniently forgetting that Sirius Black (who everyone at the time believed to be a mass murderer) was in Gryffindor. I wouldn't trust his word.

Yeah, haha, I realized after I commented that I misread the first name. Even still, an awesome Slytherin nonetheless. (With an awesome Hufflepuff daughter, for that matter.)

so maybe there actually haven't been a hundred Slytherin alumni that have gone evil, and the character who said that, Hagrid, not the narrator was just exaggerating for dramatic effect?

Even if it was actually provable that six out of ten Slytherins were incurably evil or whatever, that still leaves four impressionable minds who would maybe be more inclined to side with the good side if the good guys didn't keep lumping them all together.
