Kloves didn't do the first 3 films. Chris Columbus did the first two films, which were the best adapted, imho.

Kloves wrote the screenplays for all the movies except for OoTP (link (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0460141/)), though. So did Columbus have the creative power to do whatever he wanted with/to the script? Because I agree, the first two were the best adapted movies. Now I wonder how much the original scripts differ from the end products...

I believe so--because Chris did wayyyy better with the films than Kloves did. He actually let Ron retain his intelligence!

That's a good question, really. I'm told the actual performances can usually expand upon or even tweak the nuance of whatever is written down, but in the case of the HP films? I'm just thinking Kloves didn't really take notice until Emma hit puberty. X_X

Interesting! Yes, I definitely think that iinfluences the writing during filming. And I agree, Kloves kind of strayed to creeper territory with Emma. Like, I can understand stanning for a character, but I really disagree with what he did to Hermione, and the trio in general in the last three movies.

Chris Columbus had a lot of say in what was to happen in the first two movies. Hell, before he was even chosen to direct he had already written his own script for the first film adaptation.

As for Kloves, he had always been a Hermione fanboy. JK Rowling said before they met she was thinking she'd hate him because she thought he'd fuck it up and like Ron best, but he surprised her by saying that Hermione was his favorite character. TBH I always thought Kloves used Hermione as a self insert, and that's why we see so much her being so lovely and so awesome and so smart and so perfect and why everyone loves Hermione so much! And why Harry had a major boner for her, even when he was dating Ginny.

I think with Chris out out of the directing chair, suddenly Kloves got more say in highlighting Hermione's EPIC greatness and tossing Ron's loser ass to the side.

It did upset me because I thought Ron was fantastic in the first two films, but then for the majority of the rest of the films he was more or less just there.
