Cave Johnson mentioned early on that Caroline wouldn't want to be implanted in an A.I. I took from that that since she was implanted anyway and went murder-maniac meant she really didn't like the idea after all. But it did pretty much break my heart. I... kinda wish they'd kept the lines, but, uh, I understand why others wouldn't.

I haven't listened to them yet but from the information in the secret it seems like the lines crossed the "dark comedy" line and went straight into "oh shit really not funny" territory, so I agree with taking them out.
But I agree that it was already kind of implied that Caroline was converted pretty much unwillingly.

I was pretty horrified by the things Johnson was already doing, so it's not that I think it would have been funny, just appropriately horrifying. Kind of like a scare chord in the already slightly-off song. BUT, on second though, I probably wouldn't be too happy if the lines had been left and I'd heard them without warning ._.

actually, this is one of the reasons games among other newer forms of entertainment are looked down upon by the "high arts". the modern consumer expects a warning ahead of everything drastic.
Not being able to discuss or refer to rape means blocking it out, and that's a sort of censorship that's not good for a society.

Just my opinion.

Except most of the high arts do give you some kind of warning, for example rating [in movies] and most people usually have an idea what to expect from a play. From games you don't have quite the same level of warning, particularly since games go on much longer than most, if not all, 'high arts', at least as far how long the consumer/viewer interacts with it - which makes it that much harder to warn for something like rape, and even more so when it's two characters that you're just hearing as a you do something pretty unrelated.

Also, while I do agree that not being able to discuss it is bad, I think there's a difference between discussing it in a way that lets people who get heavily triggered by it prepare for it, and springing it on them unexpectedly. Also, I'm not completely sure I'd call it censorship in this case, since one of the actors refusing to read the lines [because he wasn't comfortable with it] had more to do with them not being put in, than anything else.

There is a big difference between discussing or referencing rape and depicting rape. When a warning is put on a depiction of rape, that is not harmful to society.
