1. Yes, you are being homophobic. You are actually being more homophobic than folks who just straight-up hate gay people, because you seem to be literally afraid of them on some level.

2. I understand that you had a bad experience and it's not like you woke up one day and decided to dislike a part of the population. Something set you off, it's not fun, it sucks, etc., and your own personal pain should not be made less important to you by the hundreds of LGBT individuals who have fallen for straight people. But it's still something to think about. Hundreds of people deal with this kind of pain. Which brings me to

3. If hundreds of people have dealt with this and are dealing with it, there must be better coping mechanisms than yours, which doesn't actually seem to be any sort of coping mechanism at all. "Avoiding gay people", or even just "avoiding attractive men playing gay men" if it's that specific a trigger for you, is not a good way of coping. Maybe you could actually use this movie to help yourself through this?

4. You need to do something to get yourself over this unrequited crush, specifically. If it's still having such an effect on you, it's a problem. Do yourself a favor and talk to somebody.

This is a very good comment. You put this way nicer than I managed.

I second this beautiful comment.

Frankly, this LGBT person doesn't care if the OP's feelings are made less important to themselves. This secret is so self-absorbed and inconsiderate of how hundreds of thousands LGBT people experience the world that I think flushing a little of their it's-all-about-me ego down the toilet would be a good thing for them and LGBT people everywhere.

As someone who has struggled to find representations of themselves in the media their entire lives, the idea that some straight people are so heterocentric that they will actually go out of their way to avoid representations of me in film (and thus probably avoid me in real life) is hurtful and damaging and only encourages studios to sideline queerness in cinema.

/angry queer anon.

...Yeah, I agree with this to a point, actually. I've crushed on straight girls before and am always searching for decent bisexual representation in entertainment, so hearing that someone is avoiding LGBT characters, for whatever reason, is ridiculous and hurtful.

It's tempting to be spitefully glad that the OP is suffering the same way so many of us have suffered, and they are being self-absorbed and inconsiderate, but telling someone who's just been kicked in the shin that thousands of people have been kicked in the shin before isn't going to make that person's shin hurt any less.
